The Lamar School girls soccer team clinched second place in South State and earned a first-round home game in the MPSA State Tournament by knocking off visiting Presbyterian Christian of Hattiesburg 5-0 on Monday.
The Lady Raiders will play host to Washington School of Greenville at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Northeast Soccer Complex.
Amy Swartzfager scored Lamar's first goal on a head off a cross from Jessi Fort. Swartzfager then scored again off an assist by Lizzie Williams to make it 2-0.
The other three goals were scored by Cheryl Luquire, S.M. Mitchell and Emily Thompson, with Thompson, Calli Covington and Swartzfager picking up assists.

Faulkner leads MCC event
The Faulkner State Red team fired a 285 to take the first-day lead of the 36-hole Meridian Community College Fall Invitational being held at Ponta Creek Golf Course.
MCC Green is second at 298 in the eight-team event, while MCC White is sixth.
The top local golfer is MCC's Daniel Boles with a 72.
He is in fourth place, four strokes behind the leader from Faulkner Blue. The leader's first name was not provided.
MCC's Clinton Hales was tied for seventh with a 74. The event concludes today.

Clarkdale takes region win
The homestanding Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale High School had six girls pick up multiple hits on the way to a 10-4 slow-pitch softball win on Monday night.
Kaylea Thrash led the way with four hits, while Megan Potate and JorD'an Orr had three each and Felicia Kirksey, Emily Howard and Brandi Wright had two each.

NEL takes another league win
The Lady Trojans of Northeast Lauderdale ran their region mark to 9-0 on the year with a convincing 11-0 win over West Jones on Monday.
Raleigh Odom had a triple and a single for NEL, while Amber Gray, Johnna Olzack and Capri Norris had two hits each. The Lady Trojans travel to Quitman today for a 5 p.m. varsity game with a b-team contest to follow.

Union picks up 10th win
Union High School moved to 20-5 on the year with an 8-0 slow-pitch softball win over Sebastopol on Monday night.
UHS had 11 hits, including two singles and a double from Amechia Hickman. Lauren White had two triples for the winners, while Morgan Milling and Lauren Kennedy had two singles each and Tiffany Thomas added a double.
Madison Brantley was the winning pitcher and moved her record to 11-3 on the season.
