Wayne County High School head football coach Marcus Boyles has won plenty of high football games during his career.
The most interesting thing about Boyles, also the athletic director, is that he doesn't back down from scheduling anyone.
Last year to keep playing Laurel he agreed to play the Tornadoes between the bricks for a second straight year. Now for the second straight year to help
his team get ready for the region, he has also scheduled Mendenhall, Pascagoula, and Vicksburg all on the road.
The first of these games is at Vicksburg tonight in the Red Carpet Bowl at 8:30 p.m. The game can be heard on WABO -FM 105.5 in Waynesboro beginning at 8 p.m.
Vicksburg returns 14 starters from last year's 10-4 team that lost to Starkville in the North 5A finals. Wayne County is ranked No. 7 in the AP poll.
Boyles says his War Eagles are healthy and in good shape for Friday night.
On offense, Boyles is coaching the offensive line this season. He is anxious to see how his line will do.
Sylva-Bay at Hebron Christian
Chad Odom's Sylva Bay Saints looked impressive on offense last Friday night, winning 35-14 over Winona Christian.
Dusty McCormick ran for three scores while sophomore quarterback John Thompson passed for two in leading the Saints to a season opening win.
Hebron won over Kemper 6-2 last week. The Saints won last season's battle.
Presbyterian Christian at WA
Wayne suffered a loss to Lamar last week but was dealt major loss when senior running back Matt Brown went down with a injury that could cost him
his senior year. Alex Brewer scored the only Wayne TD with a one-yard run in the fourth period.
The Jags' defense also recorded a safety early in the final period. Wayne quarterback Garrett James teamed up with Shawn Dearmon on a 28-yard pass play to setup the lone touchdown.
PCS, in only their second year of high school football, burned Pine Hills 30-6 last Friday night.
Loyd Star at Bay Springs
The Cecil Hicks era will begin Friday night in Bay Springs. The Bulldogs whipped Loyd Star last season.
Hicks will try to rebuild the defense that has been the backbone of the team the last three years. On offense a few more veterans return, and they will have to carry the load the first few games.
Bogue Chitto at Stringer
The Red Devils will begin a new era in Stringer football history when the Jaymar Jackson era begins.
Jackson, who is in his first year as a head coach, will be counting on "iron man" football to lead the Red Devils to an improved record.
