Anyone interested in beating the summertime heat may want to drive to the Pearl River Resort.
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians was expected today to dedicate its new $20 million Geyser Falls Water Theme Park, just west of Philadelphia.
The park is part of the Pearl River Resort a project that includes the 8-year-old Silver Star Hotel &Casino and the nearly completed Golden Moon Hotel &Casino.
The water park is along Blackjack Road near Highway 16 West, next to a new 285-acre Lake Pushmataha recreational development. The Choctaws call it one of the most modern water parks of its kind.
Geyser Falls covers 15 acres and features 12 major waterslides, including three different six-story speed slides, a wavepool and activity areas for children and teens.
Besides the water park, the Choctaws also plan to unveil a showcase attraction at a new retail promenade at the Silver Star. The attraction will feature famous cars from film and television.
Some of the cars will include the "Bonnie &Clyde" death car, the DeLorean from "Back to the Future," the Dodge Charger from "The Dukes of Hazzard," the Volkswagon Beetle from "Herbie the Lovebug" and the Chevrolet Impala from "Batman."
The formal opening of the assembly of vehicles, called the "Hollywood Star Cars," will be at 7:30 p.m.
Then, at 9:15 p.m., the Choctaws will dedicate the "Star-tacular," a light and water show set to music and featuring lasers, fountains, pyrotechnics and water screen projections.
The show will be ion front of the Silver Star Hotel &Casino.
Videos of songs by the nation's top artists will grace five, enormous star-shaped screens. Twenty-five-foot flames shooting from the tips of the stars, as well as laser beams and pyro-bursts, will complement the video performances.
