Humane Society prepares another pet adoption day

More than 25 cats and dogs are expected to be available for adoption Saturday at Bonita Lakes Mall.
The event is the latest "pet adoption day" sponsored by the Lauderdale County Humane Society. Pets will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the mall near J.C. Penney.
Among the puppies available Saturday: a litter of five black Labrador mixes; four collie-mix puppies; a couple of Shepherd-mix puppies; and a yellow Labrador-mix puppy.
About a dozen kittens, including some bob-tails, also will be available.
Lee said anyone interested in a pet should stop by the mall Saturday. She warns, however, that no one should make a rushed decision about adopting a pet.
Since last September, the Humane Society has held monthly pet adoptions at the mall to help find homes for the county's abused, neglected and discarded animals.
Lee said a group of volunteers, which cares for the animals at their homes until a permanent home can be found, has found homes for more than 150 animals since September when the mall first opened its doors to the Humane Society.
Even though county residents now have a place to take unwanted animals, Lee said, the mall is a good place for the animals to receive the exposure they need to find a good home.
Lee stresses that unwanted pets should not be dropped off at the mall.
