PHILADELPHIA Mississippi State head football coach Jackie Sherrill will be on hand Friday at Silver Star Casino's Dancing Rabbit Golf Club for the 2nd Annual Jackie Sherrill "Take a Swing at Diabetes" Golf Invitational.
The tournament will benefit the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi and will be played on the Oaks Course at Dancing Rabbit.
Registration for the four-person scramble will begin at Dancing Rabbit's clubhouse at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. A shotgun start following a noon lunch will begin at 1 p.m. on the Oaks Course.
Teams will be able to have their photo taken with Coach Sherrill before they tee off.
A cocktail reception will follow the tournament at 6 p.m. Awards will be presented to the two top teams based on their net score.
Individual prizes will be awarded for longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin on selected holes. A 2002 Lincoln Navigator will be awarded for a hole-in-one on a special hole.
A silent auction will also be held for two airline tickets from compliments of Delta Airlines.
The tournament is being sponsored by Chief Phillip Martin and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. All of the proceeds from the scramble will stay with the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi. The funds used will go to services and research to all Mississippians with diabetes.
Mississippi leads the nation in the number of people per capita with diabetes. This includes 80,000 cases of undiagnosed, 240,000 with diabetes and close to 800,000 more at risk of developing the disease.
Last year, the Sherrill Invitational raised over $30,000 for the DFM. The Foundation is offering sponsorships at the following rates:
