Grammy Award-winning singer Travis Tritt brings his unique style of country music back to East Central Mississippi on Saturday.
Tritt, a former participant at the Jimmie Rodgers Festival, will perform at 8 p.m. in the Silver Star conference center at the Silver Star Hotel &Casino in Philadelphia.
Members of the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation had continually tried to book Tritt for the festival. They finally achieved their goal in 1992 with help from another country music star, Tanya Tucker.
With 11 No. 1 hits, three Country Music Association awards and two Grammy awards, Tritt's concert performances are memorable. Said Marshall: "He really gets the crowd going."
Tritt is one of country music's most successful artists, selling 17 million albums. He fell in love with music as a child, teaching himself how to play guitar when he was 8 and writing songs when he was 14.
After paying his dues on the club circuit, Tritt signed with Warner Bros. in 1989.
During his 10 years with Warner Bros., Tritt recorded eight albums including such hits as "Help Me Hold On," "Can I Trust You With My Heart," "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" and "Foolish Pride."
In summer 1999, Tritt asked to be released from Warner Bros. to spend time with his wife and two children. He also used the time to pursue other interests besides music.
Tritt participated in a series of successful fund-raisers with other country stars to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. He also appeared on television in "Diagnosis Murder," "Touched by an Angel" and "Arliss."
Recently, Tritt signed a new record deal with Columbia Records Nashville.
All tickets to Tritt's concert are non-refundable.
Tickets may be bought at the Silver Star Box Office by calling (800) 557-0711. Fans must be at least 21 to attend. The Silver Star conference center is non-smoking.
