Retired bell-hop
Services for Robert J. Peters will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Sweet Pilgrim Methodist Church in Shubuta with the Rev. Herman Peters officiating. Burial will be in the church's cemetery with Berry &Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peters, 67, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002 at Guardian View Nursing Home of Cincinnati.
Survivors include five sisters, Margie Peters of Kew Gardens, New York; Alice White of Flint, Mich.; Argie Logan of Durant; Jessie Mae Arrington of Shubuta; and Barbara White of Meridian; two brothers, Cozy Peters of Cleveland, Ohio; and Harold Peters of Shubuta.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Monday from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. at the church.
ELLA YVONNE CARNEY LONG
GILBERTOWN, Ala. Services for Ella Yvonne "Bonnie" Carney Long will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Toxey Assembly of God with the Rev. Ray Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Brightwater Cemetery with Phillips Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Long, 63, of Toxey, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at her home.
Survivors include her father, Edgar Carney, her mother, Thedna Earl "Ted" Davidson Carney, and her husband, Eugene Long, all of Toxey; a son, Ronald E. Long, of Butler; three brothers, Wayne Carney of Butler; Terry Michael "Mickey" Carney of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Jack Carney of Mobile; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
MARY CATHERINE DALTON HICKS
Retired nurses aid
PHILADELPHIA Services for Mary Catherine Dalton Hicks will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Douglas Stone officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery.
Mrs. Hicks, 91, of Quitman, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital in Quitman. She was a longtime resident of Meridian and had lived in Quitman the past four years. She was a retired nurses aid and worked many years in the nursery at Matty Hersee State Hospital. She was a member of the Rebekah Sorority for 20 years and was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Meridian.
Survivors include four daughters, Melba "Billie" McAdory of Noxapater; Mary Drew and her husband, Ross, of Greenfield, Mo.; Tina Duncan of Philadelphia; and Dianne Boyette and her husband, Scott, of Shreveport, Louisiana; a son-in-law, Ralph MacLachlan of Kansas City; a daughter-in-law, Mae Hicks of Pearl; 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Hicks; four sons, David Edward Hicks, William Marshall Hicks, Joseph Travis Hicks and Clayborn James Hicks; a daughter, Relene MacLachlan; a grandson, Albert Duncan; and a great-grandson, Drew Hall.
The family requests memorials be made to Arthritis Foundation.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
ALFAYE MORRIS
Services for Alfaye Morris will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Burks officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Berry &Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Morris, 47, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She worked at Kate Griffin Jr. High School.
Survivors include her husband, Winford Morris Sr., and two daughters, Tonya and Renata Morris, all of Meridian; two sons, Winford Morris Jr. of Hawaii; and Joshua Morris of Meridian; two sisters, Gloria Nobles and Jo Ann Maxie, both of St. Louis; one brother, Michael Maxie of Gulfport; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
