    Newton Academy defeats Lamar

    The Generals of Newton Academy spanked the Raiders of Lamar School in high school basketball action on Saturday in Newton.
    Newton got 21 points from Wil Bean to beat Lamar 60-43. David White had 14 for the Generals.
    Newton Academy improves to 11-12 with the win.
    David Haggard led Lamar with a game high 27 points.
    Lamar led 13-7 after one quarter but the Generals came back with 19 in the second quarter to go up 26-24 by halftime. Another 19-point quarter in the third blew the game open handing NCA a 45-29 lead.
    Patrician boys 46
    Warrior Academy 31
    The Patrician Saints handed Warrior only its second loss of the season here on Saturday night in AISA action in Butler, Ala.
    Patrician improves to 14-6 with the win. Warrior falls to 17-2.
    Jordan May led the Saints with 13 points and eight rebounds. Hunter Campbell had 12 points and eight rebounds.
    Rayshun Coleman led Warrior with eight points.
    Patrician travels to Jackson Academy on Tuesday.
    Warrior girls 46
    Patrician 32
    The Warrior Academy girls team improved to 16-1 with a 46-32 win over Patrician on Saturday in Butler, Ala.
    The loss drops Patrician to 13-4.
    Katy Cannon led Warrior with a game high 30 points.
    Brooke Norris had 19 for Patrician.
    Columbus boys 81
    Neshoba Central 49
    The Rockets ran into a buzzsaw Friday night at Columbus as the 22-2 Falcons jumped out to a 25-11 first quarter advantage and kept pulling away.
    Neshoba, 18-7, got 19 points from Tawon Walker and eight from Calvin Parker.
    Columbus was led by Elecy Erby's 25 points.
    Lake boys 55
    Scott Central 47
    The Hornets upped their record to 6-15 with Friday's eight-point win at Lake.
    Lake got 21 points from Willie Hickmon and 14 from Danny Towner. The Hornets led 29-23 at halftime.
    Scott Central got 15 points from Cedric Gray and 12 from Roderick Loper.
    Newton girls 62
    South Leake 48
    The Lady Tigers built a 31-20 first half lead in beating South Leake Friday at Newton in Division 5-2A action. Newton, 19-4, got 17 points from Lenora Gray, 13 from Creoshia Williams, nine from Latonya Jordan, and eight from Marquita McLaurin.
    South Leake, 16-5, got 16 points from Tierra Young, 13 from Kia Alexander, and 12 from Brandy Earnest.
    Columbus girls 68
    Neshoba Central 53
    The Lady Rockets dropped to 18-9 with Friday's loss at Columbus. Neshoba led 13-10 after one quarter, but the Lady Falcons used a 30-16 advantage in the second quarter to take a 40-29 lead into halftime.
    Miranda Rosar led Neshoba with 18 points. Elyse Willis and India Backstrum both had 13.
    Columbus, 22-3, was led by Michelle Poindexter's 16 points.
    Wayne Co. boys 71
    Forest Hill 47
    The War Eagles improved to 21-1 in beating the Rebels Friday night in Jackson. Wayne got 18 points from Dietrick Slater and 12 from Tedrick Rankin.
    The War Eagles led 19-5 after one quarter and carried a 34-18 lead into halftime.
    Noxubee Co. boys 68
    Aberdeen 61
    The 7-17 Tigers took the Division 2-4 A contest Friday at Macon behind 21 points from O'Bryant Brandy, 15 from Patrick Thompson, and 13 from Omar Conner.
    Richie Howard led Aberdeen with 15.
    Noxubee trailed 27-25 at halftime, but entered the fourth quarter with a slim 42-41 advantage.
    Williams-Sullivan 91
    Clarkdale girls 35
    Clarkdale only trailed 16-10 after one quarter in Friday's Division 5-2A contest at Durant, but Williams-Sullivan used a 52-15 second-half advantage to turn the game into a rout.
    Tamara Brown led Clarkdale, 8-16, with 12 points. Felicia Kirksey added 11.
    Mary Timms led Williams-Sullivan with 28 points, while Angela Howard tossed in 23.
    Newton boys 73
    South Leake 69
    The Tigers took a big Division 5-2A win over South Leake Friday at Newton as they rallied from a 19-9 first-quarter deficit. Newton outscored the Wildcats 24-8 in the fourth quarter to improve to 13-11.
    Newton got 30 points from Bobby Lindsey and 16 from Coshune Bingham. Danule McNair added nine points with David Edwards and Ladarrian Blaylock tossing in seven apiece.
    South Leake, 13-8, got 19 points from DeAnthony Ealy and 14 from Rosco Luckett.
    Louisville girls 60
    New Hope 52
    Louisville took Friday's Division 2-4A win at New Hope behind 35 points from Dee Forrest. The Lady Wildcats led 31-26 at halftime.
    Laura Lee Holman led New Hope with 20 points. Tracy Power added 11.
    Nanih Waiya girls 57
    St. Joseph 19
    The Lady Warriors got 11 points apiece from Ashley Pugh and Cynthia Madison and 10 each from Christy Hickman and Nycole Hemphill in beating the Lady Fighting Irish Friday at Greenville.
    Nanih Waiya led 25-0 after one quarter and took a 37-2 advantage into halftime.
    Tiffany Davis led St. Joe with seven points.
    Leake girls 57
    East Rankin 46
    The Rebelettes got 18 points from Kristin Caldwell, 13 from B.J. Helton, nine from Greggina Tadlock, and eight from Laurin Gross in beating ERA Friday at Pelahatchie in Academy 3-AA action.
    Leake, 25-5, led 16-7 after one quarter only to have ERA rally to within 26-24 by halftime. The Rebelettes were clinging to a 38-37 lead entering the final period.
    ERA, 14-7, got 22 points from Emily Massey.
    Wayne Co. girls 54
    Forest Hill 39
    The Lady War Eagles improved to 24-1 with their Friday night win at Jackson. Natalie Jordan led Wayne with 18 points. Carla Bartee tossed in 12.
    Wayne led 20-6 after one quarter and held a 43-23 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
    St. Joseph boys 73
    Nanih Waiya 70
    The Warriors dropped Friday's contest at Greenville despite 37 points from Brent Blackwell. David Frey added 14 points for Nanih Waiya.
    St. Joseph got 37 points from Mike Simpson and 18 from Trey Bailey. The Fighting Irish led 32-27 at halftime.
    Leake boys 83
    East Rankin 45
    The Rebels outscored ERA in all four quarters of Friday's Academy 3-AA contest at Pelahatchie. Leake, 22-5, got 20 points from Joshua Chamblee, 13 from Drew Wolverton, and 12 from Trey Langston.
    ERA, 8-12, was led by Curtis Weldon with 15 points and Steven Boozer with 13.
