The Lamar Raiders suffered a 67-50 setback to the Leake Academy Rebels Monday night at the Raider gymnasium.
Lamar head coach Tristan Howell felt his team matched up well against Leake Academy.
Leake jumped out to an early 21-9 lead over the Raiders, and coasted on to its nineteenth win of the season.
Howell was correct as his Raiders were 15-of-27 from the free throw line against the Rebels.
Lamar scored 15 points in the second quarter, but Leake answered with 15 of its own, to maintain a 12 point halftime lead 36-24.
The big story in the second quarter, was newcomer, Monroe Mayfield.
Mayfield joined the team last Thursday, and Howell was impressed with his play tonight.
Mayfield tossed in nine points, and had nine rebounds for the Raiders in the 17 point setback.
After the halftime break, Leake rolled up 23 points compared to nine for Lamar in the third quarter to take a 59-33 lead.
The Raiders outscored the Rebels 17-8 in the final quarter, however they could not pull off the upset.
Despite eight straight missed shots, David Haggard led the Raiders in scoring with 14 points, Jace Hill with 11, and Mayfield added nine.
Joshua Chamblee led the Rebels in scoring with 16, and Jay Gulley tossed in 14 points for the 19-4 Rebels.
The 2-8 Lamar Raiders will be in action again today, as they will host Central Hinds.
Central Hind beat Lamar in their last meeting this season, but Howell hopes for a different scenario tonight.

The 4-15 Lamar Lady Raiders dropped a 47-29 decision to the Lady Rebels of Leake Academy Monday night at Lamar.
The Lady Raiders only scored eight points in the first two quarters, compared to 22 points for the Lady Rebels.
Libby Huff and Myleia Shirley scored the only points of the first quarter. Shirley had three points, and Huff connected with a free throw.
Despite playing nine games the past week, Leake was able to cruise past Lamar easily.
That didn't seem to be the case Monday night, as Leake hoisted a 22-8 halftime lead over the Lady Raiders.
Huff led the Lady Raiders in scoring as she tossed in 13 points.
The Raiders scored five points in the third quarter, compared to 15 for the Lady Rebels, as they took a 37-13 third quarter lead.
Lamar outscored the Lady Rebels 16-10 in the fourth quarter, but it was too late, as it lost 47-29.
Leake Academy was led in scoring by Greggina Tadlock and Kristen Caldwell with 16 points apiece, and Laura Gross added 11 points.
