Churches frame motto for classrooms

By Staff
COLLINSVILLE In response to the recent passing of a state bill requiring the posting of the national motto, "In God We Trust" in Mississippi's public school classrooms, several area churches joined forces to ensure it was executed.
Effective July 1, every public school classroom in Mississippi is required to display a poster with our national motto, "In God We Trust." The bill was passed by the legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.
As a result, several local churches in the West Lauderdale area stepped in to solve that problem.
American Family Radio in Tupelo donated 150 posters, and the hardware needed to hang them was provided by Lamar Knight of Marvin's Building Materials.
Money to purchase frames for the posters was donated by the following churches: Arkadelphia Baptist Church, Bailey Church, Collinsville First Church of God, Collinsville United Methodist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Collinsville, Northcrest's Friendship Sunday School Class, Grace Church of Collinsville, Midway Baptist Church, New Harvest Church, Pine Forest Baptist Church, Pine Grove Church and Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.
In mid-July, youth from the participating churches met at First Baptist Church in Collinsville to set the posters in the frames. Later that month, men from the churches met at the schools to mount them in the classrooms.
