Meridian Pre-Majors win World Series opener

Meridian's two state championship Dixie Youth teams took to the baseball diamond Saturday in an attempt to win a World Series, while another Meridian squad began their quest to reach the World Series.
The Meridian Pre-Majors, which claimed the state title in Laurel, knocked off Alabama 6-5 in the first round of the World Series being played in Florence, S.C. Meridian continues action today at 5:30 p.m.
In Charleston, S.C., the Meridian Majors, who captured their state crown in Taylorsville, were to have played Saturday, but rained forced the game to today at 9 a.m.
In Van Buren, Ark., the Meridian U-12's opened action in the Cal Ripken Southwest Regional, but results were not reported by press time.
