    OBITUARIES FOR TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2001

    LEMMIE M. GATEWOOD
    Metal assemblyman for La-Z-Boy
    FOREST Services for Lemmie M. "Sonny" Gatewood were to be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was to be in Pine Bluff Baptist Cemetery in Newton.
    Mr. Gatewood, 70, of Lawrence, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Laird Hospital. He was a member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church and the American Legion in Decatur. Mr. Gatewood served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
    He was a native of Scott County and had been a resident of the Ebenezer Community in Newton since 1962.
    Survivors include his wife, Juanita Gatewood and a son, Danny Gatewood, both of Lawrence; a daughter, Vicki Vance of Newton; a brother, Nova Gatewood of Lake; his twin sister, Clennie LeFlore of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Nikki Kelly of Decatur and Chris Vance of Newton; and three great-grandchildren, Grace Kelly, Angel Kelly and Aaron Kelly, all of Decatur.

    NEWTON Services for Donie Bassett Walker will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Cemetery.
    Mrs. Walker, 100, of Newton, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Newton Regional Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hickory.
    Survivors include a son, Curtis Walker and his wife, Nell, and a daughter-in-law, Eva Nell Walker, all of Hickory; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, George Walker and a son, Jack Walker.
    Pallbearers will be Johnny Walker, Kenneth Walker, Ray Walker, Curtis Walker Jr., Dusty Walker and Ryan Strait.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
    HELEN STODDARD DAVENPORT
    Retired Sears employee
    Services for Helen Stoddard Davenport will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Followell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
    Mrs. Davenport, 79, of Meridian, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at King's Daughters and Sons Rest Home. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as Sunday School secretary for many years.
    Survivors include two daughters, Becky Vance and her husband, Donald, Judy Hopkins and her husband, James Ray, all of Meridian; four grandchildren, Amy Vance Blackmon and her husband, Dwayne, of Tupelo, Max Vance and his wife, Rene, of Collinsville, Wendy Hopkins Spangler of Collierville, Tenn., and Kevin Hopkins and his wife, Keri, of Birmingham, Ala.; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Louella Lekan and her husband, Frank, of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, Oren Stoddard and his wife, Marlyn, of Delta, Utah, George Stoddard and his wife, Selma, of Orem, Utah, and Ted Stoddard and his wife, Mary, of Provo, Utah.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, R.E. "Bob" Davenport, and a son, Robert Davenport.
    Pallbearers will be the deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.
    The family requests memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 3905 8th St., Meridian, MS.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p..m. at the funeral home.
    MARY CATHERINE HARRIS
    Registered nurse
    QUITMAN Services for Mary Catherine Harris will be held Wednesday at 10 am. at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton County.
    Mrs. Harris, 47, of Enterprise, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in her home. She was a registered nurse at Clarke County Health Department for 18 years.
    Survivors include her husband, Hubert Harris, a son, Vance Harris and a daughter, Michelle Smith and her husband, Chris, all of Enterprise; her mother, Billie Harris of Newton; three step-children, Tommy Harris of Stonewall, Billy Harris of Meridian and Diane Parten of Collinsville; an uncle, William D. Vance and his wife, Sandy, an aunt, Delores Vance, two grandchildren, Joe Shelton and Adam Smith, all of Enterprise; and several other family members.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    DANIEL S. GRIFFIN
    Retired Mississippi Air National Guard
    UNION Services for Daniel S. Griffin will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Bonner and Gus Merritt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Milling Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Griffin, 47, of Newton, died Monday, July 30, 2001, in Newton. He was an active Deacon of Midway Baptist Church.
    Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kay Griffin, three sons, Jason Griffin, Austin Griffin and Casey Griffin, his mother, Bobbie Griffin, a sister, Barbara Ann McDowell and his grandmother, Effie Hall, all of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Griffin.
    Pallbearers will be members of the military honor guard.
    Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    EDNA MCDONALD
    Retired nurse's aide
    PHILADELPHIA Services for Edna McDonald will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Dewey Moore and Scotty Goldman officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery.
    Mrs. McDonald, 91, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Neshoba County General Hospital.
    Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Hardy of Philadelphia; two sons, Walter Ircel Richardson of Saraland, Ala., and Isum "Bud" Richardson of Satsuma, Ala.; five sisters, Bernice Moore, Pauline Hardy and Lois Beason, all of Philadelphia, Eurtis Parker of Vicksburg and Walterine Sheffield of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, F.B. Goldman of Arlington, Texas, and Rodney Goldman of Philadelphia; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Richardson.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    BARBARA L. RAY
    Services for Barbara L. Ray will be held Thursday at noon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Revs. A.D. Lewis and R.D. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Ray, 72, of Meridian, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
    Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Arrangements were incomplete at James F. Webb Funeral Home for Linda Liedtke, 47, of Meridian, who died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.

    Arrangements were incomplete at James F. Webb Funeral Home for Lyda C. Walker, 104, of Meridian, who died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
