    Students recognized for achievements

    LIVINGSTON, Ala. Kelly Pigott of Meridian has been recognized for academic achievement at The University of West Alabama. She is a graduate student in sociology and is the daughter of Marsha Suire.
    Two Elizabeth Welsh Riley Scholars have been announced for 2001-2002 at Meridian Community College.
    Karla Boutwell of Quitman and Tammy Carroll of Philadelphia will each receive a $1,200 scholarship funded by a memorial endowment established by Dr. Billy Riley of Meridian through the MCC Foundation.
    Both Boutwell and Carroll are sophomores in the Associate Degree Nursing Program who intend to continue studies on their bachelor's degree in nursing after graduation from MCC.
    Lauren Lee of Meridian will begin her freshman year at Meridian Community College this fall as a Key Brothers Scholar. Lee, a graduate of West Lauderdale High School, will receive the $1,000 scholarship as a student in MCC's University Transfer Program.
    The following students were listed on the University of Mississippi's Chancellor's Honor Roll for the spring semester:
    Wendi Kathleen Herring, Regan Jill Aycock, Frederick Douglas Grant, Julia Tate Heblon, Brooke Andrea Lawyer, Mary Elizabeth Marascalco, Benjamin Jeffery Moffett, James M. Paige, Katie Elizabeth Pigford, Amy R. Roebuck, Melissa Ann Smith, Nelson Lee Valentine and Benjamin Wade Wilkerson, all of Meridian and Kristy Lou Brasher of Collinsville.
    Area students listed on the Dean's Honor Roll were:
    Steve Eli Jellenc, Jennifer Leigh Barry, Paul Justice Bowles, Leighton Mims Braddock, Matthew Clark Dunn, Emily Joy Grant, Meredith Ryan Long, Ned Louvier McCormick III, Courtney Lynn Nicholson, Mary Emmalee Parkes and Fredrick Adam Pennebaker, all of Meridian and Georgianne E. Patterson of Collinsville.
    Magnolia Middle School students received the following recognition during the school's Academic Excellence Awards Program:
    Seventh-grade all A's Ashley Chisolm, Danny Derrington, Drew Edwards, Hunter Futch, Monica Gordon, Daniel Johnson, Nick Norman, Jodi Schiedel and Fran Surles.
    Seventh-grade A's and B's Sarah Beth Boutwell, Artesian Boyd, Amber Brown, Denise Brown, Clark Bullock, Matthew Castleberry, Amanda Cody, Webb Compton, Meagan Crane, Stephanie Dawkins, Bailey Duke, Brandi Edwards, Emily Entrekin, Garland Floyd, Samantha Geralds, Micah Hodges, John Lisenbe, Chris Martin, Chet Nicklas, Gracie Nichols, Dimple Patel, Rebekah Rice, Ophelia Thomas, Alex Walimaa, Adam Wilson and Sam Wilson.

    Sixth-grade A's and B's Zack Adkins, Catie Alexander, Laura Bagley, Korey Beckman, Allison Blaine, Kenyata Blair, Jakkita Bolden, Laquandra Bolden, Shaquanta Boyd, Shatasha Collins, Tamra Daniels, Sarah Eakes, John Everett, Jessica Ferrell, Sarah Gordon, Everette Hill, Jaren-Bryce Hillery, Charles Hughes, Kamilah Jasper, Ginny Lewis, Mishkat Lightwala, Greg Mangum, Regina Martinez, Sarah Pierce, Elizabeth Pomierski, Isaac Radcliff, Jameson Ramsey, Jill Rush, Mallie Scarbrough, Jessica Thompson, Lynnzie Warren and Jared Woods.
    Meridian Community College nursing students Denise Davis of Meridian and Valeria Stevenson of Noxapater have each received scholarships for the fall semester from the Volunteer Auxiliary of Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
    MONTICELLO, Ark. William J. Smith of Hickory, Miss., received his degree from the University of Arkansas-Monticello during commencement exercises held May 11.
    DECATUR The following students received scholarship awards during the Academic Awards Ceremony at Newton County High School:
    Mark Weaver, Stephanie Airhart, Alicia Mills, Whitney Harris, Bethany Garrison, Dana Massey, Olin Thomas, Kelly Williams, Charlene Foreman, Jarrod Scoggin, Michael Holyfield, Patrick Johnson, Jessica Sistrunk, Jennifer Williamson, Andrew Cooley, April Bufkin, Rita Caudill, Aaron Terrell, Grace Milling, Jenny Jones, Claudia Zynosky-Sharpling, Dinah Howell and Kristina Smith.
    COLUMBUS Kim Burrage of Meridian has been selected to receive a $389 Sara Claire Caldwell Long Scholarship for the 2001-2002 academic year.
    The scholarship is awarded to a female junior of senior majoring in chemistry. Burrage is a student at Mississippi University for Women.
