Whitaker earns MVP in MPSA game

Wade Whitaker of Kemper Academy went 4-for-5 to earn Most Valuable Player honors for the North team in the Mississippi Private School Association's A-AA All-Star Baseball Game Saturday afternoon at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.
Whitaker had four singles and drew a walk in the North's 13-12 win. He also stole a base, scored two runs, and had one RBI. Defensively, the East Mississippi Community College signee made a diving catch in center field.
While the game ended close, the North threatened to turn the contest into a rout in the early going. The North jumped out to an 11-0 lead and had a no-hitter through 4 1/2 innings. The South rallied for 10 runs in the top of the ninth inning, nine of which crossed the plate with two outs. The South had the bases loaded when the game ended.
The North had 18 hits and committed three errors. The South had 10 hits and committed four errors.
Scott McInnis of Academy A state champion Heidelberg Academy went 2-for-3 with an RBI-single and a solo homer that cleared both fences in left field. He was also hit by a pitch. McInnis played shortstop, right field, and pitched for the North.
Drew Powell of Central Academy went 2-for-2 for the North with two RBIs and a stolen base. He played second base.
Third baseman Kyle Chaney of Newton County Academy went 0-for-2 for the North.
For the South, Leake Academy's Nathan Busby went 1-for-1 and drove in his team's first run with an RBI-single. He played right field.
Mitch Mangum of Academy AA state champion Simpson Academy was the MVP for the South.
North 9, South 4: The North completed the sweep in the AAA-AAAA game Saturday night at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.
Brett Donahoo of Oak Hill Academy earned MVP honors for the North and was the winning pitcher.
Drake Adams of Madison-Ridgeland Academy was the MVP for the South. For the South team, third baseman Jeff Knight of Lamar School went 0-for-2, while former Raider teammate Ryan Satcher drew a walk in his only plate appearance. Satcher played second base.
The North had 11 hits and committed three errors.
The South had nine hits and had two errors.
