OBITUARIES FOR WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18, 2001

BARBARA HUGHES LANDRY
BRIDGE CITY, Texas Barbara Hughes Landry, 70, of Bridge City died Monday, April 2, 2001, in her home. She is now at rest with the Lord.
Born in Port Arthur on July 1, 1930, to Yerby L. Hughes Sr. and Dorothy Heath Hughes, she lived in the Orange-Bridge City area her entire life.
Mrs. Landry was a loving and loyal wife. She was a wonderful and inspirational mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated, devout, and steadfast Christian and member of the First Baptist Church in Orange. Her life touched thousands of people. Even in the face of death, her faith never wavered. She was ready to be with the Lord that she had worshiped so faithfully all of her life.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, J. Mitch Landry; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Charles Shelton of Valdosta, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Michael and Cheryl Landry of Houston, Mitch and Wanda Landry of Austin, and Richard and Amy Landry of Roundrock; 11 grandchildren, Matthew Shelton, Mary Anne Shelton, Sarah Landry, Tommy Landry, Melinda Adams, Jaclyn Adams, Allison Landry, Cassie Landry, Logan Landry, Eryn Landry, and Luke Landry; brothers and sisters-in-law, Yerby, Jr. and Jean Hughes of Meridian, Miss., Jimmy and Pat Hughes of Spring Hill, Fla.; and sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Art Lavergne of Richardson, Texas.
Claybar Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
ELLA SIMS ANDERSON

Memorial services for Ella Sims Anderson were to be held today at 10 a.m. at Clark's Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Parker officiating.
Ms. Anderson, 84, of Meridian, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in her home.
Survivors include two sons, J.W. Garry of Meridian and Earnest Sims of Los Angeles; and 10 grandchildren.
MALCOM JACK ADAMS
GILBERTOWN, Ala. Services for Malcom Jack Adams will be held today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Church of God with the Rev. B.A. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Barrytown Cemetery with Phillips Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Adams, 84, of Gilbertown, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Willow Trace Nursing Center.
Survivors include his wife, Mary T. Adams of Gilbertown; five sons, Jimmy Adams of Butler, Roy Adams of Demopolis, Hudson Adams of Columbus, Ralph Adams of Gilbertown and Larry Adams of Millry; three daughters, Pauline Campbell of Destin, Esther Roach and Frances Ezell, both of Birmingham; a brother, Wilburn Adams of Atlanta; a sister, O'Nell Abston of Gilbertown; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

PHILADELPHIA Services for Randy "Plug" Smith will be held today at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. James Young and Dr. Danny Lanier officiating. Burial will be in Hester Cemetery with McClain-Hays Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Smith, 41, of Collinsville, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Neshoba County General Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Smith, three daughters, Ashlie Miranda Smith, Sabrina Renee' Smith and Amanda Lee Smith and his mother, Mildred Smith Goforth, all of Collinsville; a sister, Dale Kaylor of Wichita, Kan.; and a brother, Larry Reynolds of Petal.
MASON L. DENNIS

NEWTON Services for Mason L. Dennis will be held today at 2 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Brent Parks, Fent Smith and Hobson Toney officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Cemetery.
Mr. Dennis, 81, of Lawrence, died Monday, April 16, 2001, in his home. He was a member of Hull Memorial United Methodist Church, a Hamasa Shriner, Master Mason and past master of Newton Lodge No. 57. Mr. Dennis was a director for the Meridian Stockyards, a member of Woodman of the World, Lawrence Round Table Club and charter member of Mississippi Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen M. Dennis of Lawrence; three daughters, Shirley Dennis Vance and her husband, Charles, and Linda Dennis Cooper, all of Newton, Nita Dennis Carr of Collierville, Tenn.; two sons, Glenn Dennis and his wife, Becky, of Collierville and Alford M. Dennis and his wife, Margaret, of Newburgh, Ind.; a son-in-law, Hamp Savell of Lawrence; a brother, Roy V. Dennis of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A.V. and Hazel Goodwin Dennis; a daughter, Susan Dennis Savell; a sister, Myrle Dennis Jenkins; and his wife, Mary Woodham Dennis.
The family requests memorials be made to Hull Memorial United Methodist Church or Lawrence Cemetery Fund in care of Billie Craven, 1171 Lawrence-Bethel Road, Newton, MS 39345.
Pallbearers will be Cody Savell, Hamp Savell, Chuck Cooper, Rusty Cooper, Charlie Crenshaw III and Greg Vance.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Dennis, Jonathan Dennis, Chuck Crenshaw, Allen Carr and all of his many friends.
WILLIAM G. RICHARDS

Graveside services for William G. "Richie" Richards will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery with the Revs. Wayne Campbell and Odel Powell officiating. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Richards, 72, of Chunky, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Chunky.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Richards of Chunky; a son, Martin and his wife, Donna, of Riverside, Ala.; a daughter, Lynda Moore of Chunky; three sisters, Loretta Sharpio of St. Petersburg, Fla., Florence Schiener of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Dorothy Richards of Providence, R.I.; a brother, George Richards of Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
RICHARD HARDY

PHILADELPHIA Services for Richard Hardy will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at Beat Line Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with McClain-Hays Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hardy, 16, of Philadelphia, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his parents, Mike and Brenda Hardy, a sister, Kim Hardy, maternal grandparents, Jerry and Bessie Ford, paternal grandparents, Oren and Bobbie Hardy, all of Philadelphia; and his great-grandmothers, Addie Ford of Brooklyn and Minnie Rucker of Philadelphia.
BERTHA SHEFFIELD
Services for Bertha Sheffield will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Daryl Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sheffield, 64, of Meridian, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Christene Walker McNeil and her husband, William, Linda Hodges and her husband, Edward, and Lisa Jenkins and her husband, Joe, a special daughter, LaTasha Hodges, five sons, Willie Sheffield, Michael Sheffield, Alfred Sheffield, Lavell Sheffield and Kenneth Sheffield, all of Meridian; nine sisters, Essie Howard and Sylvia Miller, both of Birmingham, Ala., Lucille Mitchell, Lillie Davis, Leotis Ray and Sue Ray, all of Butler, Ala., Ida Coleman and Betty Johnson, both of Los Angeles, and Geneva Hampton of Detroit, Mich.; five brothers, Ellison Davis of Phoenix, Ariz., Jimmie Davis, Levester Davis, James Davis and Ed Davis, all of Birmingham; his step-maternal-grandmother, 10 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the service.
