Wayne County, Quitman finish strong at state powerlifting meet

Wayne County and Quitman both finished second in their respective classifications in the state powerlifting meet Saturday at Pearl.
Madison Central won Class 5A with 54 points, while Wayne County was second with 47. Vicksburg (23), Warren Central (17), and Northwest Rankin (9) completed the top five. Meridian was 12th with three points.
Chris Harris of Wayne County took first place in the 123-pound division with a total of 1,000.
Kevin Hill of Wayne County was first in the 132-pound division with 1,020 pounds.
Greg Moore of Wayne County was first in the 242-pound category with a total of 1,475 pounds.
In Class 4A, defending state champion Quitman finished second to West Point, 39-34. Aberdeen (29), Northeast Jones (17), and Hernando (16) completed the top five.
Quitman's Aaron Rose won first place in the 132-pound division with a total of 1,045 pounds.
Vance McClendon of Quitman won the 148-pound division with a total of 1,175.
Courtney Haralson of Quitman won the 181-pound division with a total of 1,410.
West Lauderdale placed fourth and Scott Central was third in their respective classes Friday at Pearl.
West Lauderdale's Jared Parten took first place in the Class 3A 242-pound division with a total of 1,280.
West Lauderdale's Jason Kimbrough took second place in his weight class.
Pontotoc was first in Class 3A followed by Wilkinson County, J.J. McClain, and West Lauderdale. Forest was seventh.
In the Class 1A-2A meet, Coffeeville finished in first place followed by St. John and Scott Central. Nanih Waiya placed seventh, while Sebastopol came in ninth.
Earl Bradford of Scott Central took first place in the 1A-2A 148-pound division with a total of 1,155.
