OBITUARIES FOR MONDAY, JAN. 29, 2001

QUITMAN Services for Clara Brown will be held today at 1 p.m. at Old Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Arrington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Turner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brown, 88, of Kenosha, Wis., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Kenosha.
Survivors include 10 children, J.L. Brown and his wife, Gloria Cannady of Quitman, Bertha Wainwright of Kenosha, John W. Brown, Dorothy Williams, Phylistene Franklin, James Brown Jr. and his wife, Alice Johnson, of Racine, Wis., Louise Bostick of DeQuincy, La., and Victoria Graves of Pachuta; 34 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Services for James Monroe Bateman will be held today at 1 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Malcolm Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Bateman, 73, of Meridian, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Specialty Hospital of Meridian. He served in World War II, was a Mason, and past Master at Lodge #618.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Bell Bateman of Meridian; a son, Larry Bateman and his wife, Maggie, of Jackson, Tenn.; three sisters, Georgia Alexander of Louisville; Johnnie Green of Preston and Rosa Lee Ivey of Fresno, Calif.; two grandchildren, Leslie Miller and Kyle Bateman; and three great-grandchildren, Justin Turk, Austin Turk and Chandler Miller.

QUITMAN Services for Elsie McGrew will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church with the Revs. John Edwards and Mike Powell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McGrew, 85, of Stonewall, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Lakeside Living Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Bunny Galistel of Meridian; a sister, M.L. Priester of Stonewall; a brother-in-law, Luther McGrew of Stonewall; five sisters-in-law, Nora Bell Owen of Jackson, Winnie Rolison and Bernice Rolison, both of Enterprise, Pauline Rolison of Stonewall and Lola Ruth Galyean of Meridian; two grandchildren, Steve Galistel and his wife, Donna, and Crystal Watkins and her husband, Wiley, all of Meridian.
Mrs. McGrew was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carl "Bud" McGrew Jr.
Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

UNION Services for Dee Q. Byram will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Pat Nations and William Walker officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Mr. Byram, 80, of Decatur, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in his home.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Sue Wright of House and Janis Wright of Columbia; a son, James D. Byram of Decatur; a sister, Lois Blackburn of Conehatta; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Mason Byram.
Visitation will be today from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for Allen E. Gustin, 47, of Meridian, who died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at D.C.H. Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
