Kemper County too much for Velma Jackson

Chris Davis scored 14 points Friday night to lead Kemper County to a three-point win over Velma Jackson.
The win improved Kemper County to 17-8 on the year while dropping Velma Jackson to 19-4.
Along with Davis' 14 points, Derrick Boyd added 13 while James Moore and Kenny Boyd each scored 11.
DeAndre Jackson and Hervey Banks each scored 16 to lead Velma Jackson. Ray Paige added 13.
Velma Jackson girls 58, Kemper Co. 31: Other than a 15-point effort in the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats couldn't find much offense Friday night as they dropped a 27-point decision to Velma Jackson.
Kemper Co., which fell to 4-18 with the loss, was led by Monique Mosley with seven points. Four other Lady Wildcats scored six each.
Sunyetta Bowie's 20 poitns paced Velma Jackson, which improved to 20-5. Katunia Levy added 16.
Manchester girls 52, Lamar 29: Libby Huff scored 15 points to lead the Lady Raiders, But it wasn't enough as they wound up on the wrong side of the 23-point decision.
Manchester boys 64, Lamar 56: Manchester held on for an 11-point victory, but it had to fend off a rally by the Raiders to do it.
Lamar was down by as much as 21 points in the first half. But the Raiders came back and even took the lead in third quarter before eventually falling.
Jared McKee led Lamar with 23 points and nine rebounds. Dusty Jones added 19 points, and Sam Eakes was one point away from a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Scott Central girls 49, Edinburg 37: Scott Central improved to 17-7 with the 12-point victory.
Britney Burks led Scott Central with 21 points, and Katie Nickerson added 14.
Enterprise boys 77, Seminary 60: Corey Boggan poured in 30 points to lead Enterprise to the 17-point victory.
Brian Bester added 18 points for Enterprise and Burrell Gandy pitched in 16.
Seminary was led by Chris Smith with 22, Daniel Woolwin with 13 and Jermaine Cooley with 10.
The win improved Enterprise to 9-11 on the year and 2-1 in district play.
Southern Choctaw boys 80, Excel 38: Bernard McGrew scored 19 points as Southern Choctaw rolled to an easy win over Excel Friday night.
Shaun Causey added 16 for Southern Choctaw, which is now 14-8 on the year and 5-1 in area play.
Weir girls 44, Noxapater 42: Noxapater fell to 8-8 with the two-point loss.
Krystala Foster scored 14 and Deidre Triplett added 13 to lead Noxapater in the loss.
Weir was led by Kamesha Kincaid and Menyon Jordan with 17 each.
Quitman girls 52, Northeast Jones 46: The Lady Panthers picked up a big district win over NEJ Friday night to improve to 4-16 overall and 2-3 in district play.
Kemonica McGee led the Lady Panthers with 22 points. Shaquilla Mack added 19.
Amanda Hales scored 15 to lead Northeast Jones.
Quitman boys 77, NE Jones 69: Four players scored in double-figures Friday night for coach Steve Hampton's Panthers as they picked up the eight-point win.
David Laphand led the Panthers with 23. Renaldo McKenzie added 16, Jason Pearson 14, and Marcus McCormick 10.
Quitman is now 11-9 on the year and 4-1 in district competition. Ray Hales scored 16 to lead NE Jones, which fell to 11-12 and 0-3.
Northeast Lauderdale girls 74, Mendenhall 44: Dorecious Powe and Quin Jackson each scored 24 points in the Lady Trojans' win over Mendenhall Friday night.
Keisha Sanders added 13 for the Lady Trojans, who improve to 16-8 on the year and 4-0 in district play.
Samara Johnson scored 18 points to lead Mendenhall.
Mendenhall boys 68, NE Lauderdale 60: Jimmy Kelly led the Trojans with 12 points, but it wasn't enough as they dropped an eight-point decision to Mendenhall Friday night. The Trojans fell to 11-10 with the loss.
James Hobbs' 18 points led Mendenhall.
Sumter Academy boys 56, Jackson Academy 40: Sumter Academy improved to 8-8 with a 16-point win over Jackson Academy Friday.
Shane Martin led Sumter with 16 points. John Upchurch added 14 in the win.
Heidelberg boys 69, South Jones 59: Lee Jones scored 17 points to lead the Heidelberg High School Oilers over South Jones.
The Oilers led 28-18 at the half. Fred Stephens add 14 points, while Derrick Turner scored 12 and Jessie Jones scored 10.
Heidelberg girls 72, South Jones 62: Jessica Yate's 22 points led the Lady Oilers over the Lady Braves.
Lakeshia Hales added 13 while Moneshia Cooley scored 10.
