RHS Golden Tigers win 5 of 6 games

The Russellville baseball team put together a five-game winning streak last week that included a sweep of area opponent Priceville.

The winning streak started with a 5-2 win over Deshler. Brayden Hatton, Jackson Smith and Tristan Ray each had two hits for Russellville, and Smith, Ray and Tripp Cleveland had RBIs for the Golden Tigers.

Jackson Smith was the winning pitcher, and Ty Engelthaler got the save.

Next up for Russellville was a trip to Ardmore for a double header. RHS got the sweep with an 11-2 win in game one and a 6-2 victory in game two.

During game one, Ray had three hits and three RBIs to lead RHS. Brayden Entrekin returned to action after missing multiple games due to injury and got the win on the mound. The left-hander went four innings and struck out 11 batters, allowing no hits and walking just one. Gavin Willis pitched three innings of relief.

Game two featured two-hit performances at the plate by Entrekin, Ray and Malaki Groce. Ray hit a home run and collected three RBIs. Cleveland was the winning pitcher, and Hatton worked in relief.

Russellville started area play with a thrilling 1-0 home win over Priceville on a walk-off RBI single by Houston Askew. Hatton had the only other hit for RHS during the pitchers duel. Engelthaler was outstanding on the mound pitching a complete game to get the win. The righthander allowed four hits, struck out eight and issued no walks.

The Golden Tigers then extended their winning streak to five games with an 8-4 victory over Priceville. Caleb Hawkins and Cleveland had three hits each to help RHS improve to 2-0 in area play. Ray led the team with three RBIs. Entrekin pitched four innings, and Cleveland was on the mound for three frames.

Russellville’s streak end March 28 when the Golden Tigers traveled to Birmingham’s Rickwood Field and faced the Briarwood Christian Lions. Former RHS head coach Chris Heaps’ Lions defeated the Golden Tigers 10-0. Russellville (8-13) got two hits each from Entrekin and Groce. Smith, Hawkins, and Askew were the RHS pitchers.
