Belgreen, Phil Campbell win 3 each
Belgreen swept all three opponents the Bulldogs played last week, and Phil Campbell bounced back from a loss the county rival Red Bay to claim a victory over Lamar County and a doubleheader win over Covenant Christian.
Red Bay 3 Phil Campbell 1
The Red Bay Tigers and Phil Campbell Bobcats traveled to Madison to play at Toyota Field home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas. The experience and thrill of playing in a minor league baseball stadium soon gave way to the competition of two rivals with Red Bay topping Phil Campbell 3-1.
Red Bay outhit Phil Campbell 7-3 in the win. Davo Colburn led the Tigers with a single and a double and an RBI.
Carson McGee got the win for the Tigers, allowing just two hits and striking out five. Isaac Duboise went the distance for Phil Campbell allowing seven hits and striking out six.
Belgreen 19 Vina 1
The Belgreen Bulldogs beat county rival Vina 19-1 early last week. Vina took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, then it was all Belgreen. The Bulldogs scored five in the second inning, four in the third and capped the game off with a 10-run fifth.
Belgreen had 17 hits led by Colton Ashton’s fivehit game. Ashton also had two RBIs and scored three times. Noah Scott had two hits and three RBIs from the middle of the lineup. Braden Hamilton had two hits, three RBIs, and scored twice. Zed Wilson tripled.
Rush Berryman got the win on the mound pitching five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 11.
Belgreen 12 Colbert County 11
Belgreen beat Colbert County 12-11 on Thursday. In a back-and-forth matchup, the Bulldogs kept battling by putting the ball in play, outhitting the Indians 15-11.
Colbert County led Belgreen 4-1 after one inning. The Bulldogs battled back in the second inning but still trailed 6-5. Belgreen tied the game in the fourth inning. Colbert County reclaimed the lead in the fifth at 10-9. Again, Belgreen tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
After a scoreless seventh, the game went to extra innings. Colbert County scored first to take an 11-10 lead, but Belgreen kept its composure and won in the bottom of the eighth to win.
Ashton led the Bulldogs from the top of the lineup with four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Belgreen got two hits each from Wilson, Berryman, Noah Scott, Ethan Dawson, and Hamilton.
Ashton, Dawson and Berryman each doubled. Dawson scored three runs. Hamilton and Brayden Messer scored two runs each.
Ashton got the win for Belgreen relieving both Hamilton and Chance Pennington after three innings and going the rest of the way.
Belgreen 20 Colbert Heights 13
Belgreen finished off the Colbert County schools on Saturday, pummeling the Colbert Heights Wildcats 20-13.
Belgreen scored 20 runs despite only six hits and committing five errors. Colbert Heights’ pitching played a big role by walking 15 Belgreen batters.
Ty Hamilton got the win on the mound going the first four and twothirds innings. Hamilton gave up just one earned run on five hits and struck out three.
Dawson, Scott and Berryman all doubled. Scott had four RBIs.
Phil Campbell 4 Lamar County 2
Phil Campbell ended a rough week by beating the Lamar County Bulldogs 4-2 on Saturday. The Bobcats led 1-0 after two innings and 4-2 after three innings.
Chandler Benford had a hit and scored twice from the top of the lineup. Shooter Motes and Miles Duboise had a hit each. Jack Owens and Isaac Duboise also scored for the Bobcats.
Benford got the win on the mound going the distance allowing just one earned run on four hits and striking out five.
Phil Campbell 12 Covenant Christian 1
Phil Campbell scored eight runs in the top of the first and went on to demolish Covenant Christian 12-1 in the first game of a double header on Saturday.
Chandler Benford had two doubles, three RBIs and scored three runs. Hagen Raper scored two runs. Isaac Duboise had a double, two RBIs and scored a run. Jack Owens doubled and Motes tripled.
Benford got the win on the mound for the Bobcats.
Phil Campbell 11 Covenant Christian 1
Phil Campbell had no problems with Covenant Christian in game two of their double header on Saturday winning 11-1.
Benford had another solid game with three hits, a RBI and three runs scored. Isaac Duboise doubled a run in and scored twice. Owens doubled a run in and scored. Sage Morgan and Motes both tripled.
Owens got the win on the mound for the Bobcats.
