Janice Sue Jackson Daniels
Feb.  27, 2026 

Janice Sue Jackson Daniels, 76, of Russellville, passed away Feb. 27. Visitation took place at Spry Memorial Chapel on March 3 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. with the service immediately following. Burial was in Franklin Memory Gardens. 

Patricia Louise Sant
Feb. 26, 2026 

Patricia Louise Saint, 84, of Russellville, formerly of Chicago, passed away Feb. 26. A celebration of life will be held at Akins Funeral Home on March 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a short service at 5 p.m.  

 

Hughes

Nickey Allen Hughes
Feb. 25, 2026 

Nickey Allen Hughes, 59, of Phil Campbell, passed away Feb. 25 at Helen Keller Hospital in Tuscumbia.  

 

He was born Feb. 7, 1967, to Author Leon Hughes and Lorene Ann “Polly” Cole Hughes. Nickey was a loving and caring man with a wonderful sense of humor. Many described him as one of a kind and a hardworking individual. Above all, he loved his family deeply and cherished the time he spent with them. 

 

Visitation was held Feb. 27 from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville, with the service taking place there Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. Burial was at Dempsey Cemetery in Russellville. Bro. Terry Butler and Bro. William Borden officiated.  

 

Pallbearers included Kevin Aaron, Andrew Fugate, Riley Hughes, Balch, Kyle Pounders, Joey Beam and Alex Hughes. Brian McMafee, Joe Baker, John Backn, Gary William, Gary Edgar and Danny Cole were honorary pallbearers.  

 

Nickey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy Hughes; sons, Adam (Chas) Hughes and Christopher Hughes; daughters, Latisha (Jamie) Hughes and Cassandra Hughes; grandchildren, Keyley Gann, Kierra Gann, Kaylen Hughes, Serenity Hughes, Vektra Palmer, and Makenlee Palmer; sisters, Teresa (Danny Cole) Fugate, Mary Williams and Sharon (David) Baker; brother, Tim Hughes; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Author Leon and Lorene “Polly” Hughes; brothers, Rickey Hughes and Michael Hughes; grandparents, Leamon and Grace Hughes and William Riley and Lottie Mae Cole; and sister-in-law, Sherry Hughes.

John Paul Johnson, 48, of Russellville, passed away Feb. 25. Visitation took place at Spry Memorial Chapel on Feb. 28 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Burial was in Phil Campbell City Cemetery. 

James Gary Montgomery
Feb. 23, 2026 

James Gary Montgomery, 70, of Florence, formerly of Russellville, passed away Feb. 23. Visitation took place at Spry Memorial Chapel on Feb. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the service immediately following. A private family burial will take place at Shiloh Cemetery in Greenhill Alabama, on Feb. 27. 

Norman Merrill Hawkins
Feb. 13, 2026 

Norman Merrill Hawkins, 66, of Russellville, passed away Feb. 13. Visitation took place at Spry Memorial Chapel on Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the service immediately following.
