2 state lawmakers are not challenged in May

RUSSELLVILLE — Franklin County’s two incumbents in the Alabama Legislature will not face GOP opposition in the May primary election, but one does have a Democratic challenger in the general election.

Incumbent State Sen. Larry Stutts, who represents District 6 which includes Franklin County, will face Democrat Bobby Martin in November.

House District 18 incumbent Jamie Kiel (R) does not have any opposition in the primary or general elections.

Congressional

Franklin’s local congressional seats, meanwhile, include primary contests on the Republican and Democratic sides for one U.S. Senate seat and the District 4 congressional seat.

The U.S. Senate seat race features seven Republicans and five Democrats. This is the senate seat currently occupied by Tommy Tuberville, who is seeking to become governor rather than run for re-election. The other seat, which is occupied by Katie Britt, does not come up for re-election until 2028.

Seth Burton, Dale Shelton Deas Jr., Jared Hudson, Steve Marshall, Barry Moore, Morgan Murphy, and Rodney Walker are seeking the Republican nomination. Dakarai Larriett, Lamont Lavender, Kyle Sweetser, Everett Wess, and Mark S. Wheeler II are seeking the Democratic nomination.

Primary runoffs are June 16 if necessary.
