RHS volleyball sets school record for wins
The Russellville High volleyball team set a school record for wins in a season during a week filled with accomplishments.
Russellville earned win No. 21 of the season which tied the school record on Sept. 16 with a 2-0 victory over Red Bay. The Lady Golden Tigers led by head coach Madison Lamon then set the new school record with a 2-0 win over Clements in the first game of the Brooks Invitational on Sept. 20.
RHS finished 6-1 in the Brooks tournament to earn second place. Also during the Brooks Invitational, sophomore Bri McCulloch reached the 1,000 digs mark in her career.
The Lady Golden Tigers are now 27-8 on the season. Important area matches are among the contests remaining on the regular season schedule.
The Lady Golden Tigers traveled to Covenant Christian on Sept. 15 and RHS got a 3-1 win by scores of 17-25, 25-8, 25-20 and 25-21.
Laila Hill led Russellville with 12 kills and Blevyn Sappington added 11. Fatima Ramirez recorded 16 assists and Alexia Groce had 12. McCulloch led RHS with 25 digs.
Russellville then hosted Haleyville and Red Bay on Sept. 16. The Lady Lions got the hard-fought 2-0 win over RHS by scores of 27-25 and 27-25. Sappington led Russellville with nine kills. Ramirez added 13 assists and McCulloch had 16 digs.
The Lady Golden Tigers answered with the win over Red Bay with scores of 25-17 and 25-17. Hill had eight kills for Russellville. Ramirez had 11 assists, and McCulloch added seven digs. Adaleigh Smith led RHS in blocks with three.
RHS opened the Brooks Invitational with the 2-0 win over Clements by scores of 25-18 and 25-14. Russellville then defeated Colbert County 2-0 with scores of 25-11 and 25-6 and followed with a 2-0 victory over Brooks by scores of 25-21 and 25-21. The Lady Golden Tigers then topped Florence 2-0 by scores of 25-14 and 25-17 before defeating Mars Hill 2-0 with scores of 30-28 and 25-20.
RHS finished the tournament with a 2-0 win over Lawrence County (Tennessee) by scores of 25-23 and 25-12 before falling to Lauderdale County. LCHS took the 2-0 win by scores of 25-16 and 27-25.
