Williams defeats Marbutt in Phil Campbell mayor’s race
PHIL CAMPBELL — Voters in Phil Campbell elected Greg Williams as mayor in Tuesday night’s municipal election.
Williams defeated Mayor Eddie Marbutt, who was appointed in April after Michael McQuary resigned. Marbutt had previously been serving as the Place 3 councilman.
The Place 3 council seat went to Billy Burks, who was appointed May 1 after Marbutt’s appointment to mayor left the seat open. Burks has been serving the remainder of that term.
Meegan Scott was elected to Place 1 after Barry King chose not to run.
Place 2 went to Rodney Kuykendall, who was appointed in September 2022 after Jeremy Kastberg resigned Aug. 17, 2022. Kuykendall, sworn in Oct. 4, 2022, by Probate Judge Barry Moore, has been completing Kastberg’s unexpired term.
Place 4’s contested race saw incumbent Lynn Landers re-elected over challengers Jacqueline Knott and Walter Huet Charlie Willis Evans Jr.
Place 5 went to Thomas Inman after Philip King did not file for re-election.
The new four-year terms for the mayor and council members start Nov. 3.
