RHS volleyball wins Lauderdale tournament

The Russellville High Lady Golden Tigers, led by head coach Madison Lamon, won the Lauderdale County Serve Off Tournament on Aug. 23.

RHS went 5-1 in the event after opening the season on the road with victories over Hamilton and Lynn on Aug. 21. Russellville topped Hamilton 2-0 by scores of 25-17 and 25-11, and defeated Lynn 2-0 by scores of 25-13 and 25-22.

Russellville began the Lauderdale tournament with a 2-0 loss to the home team, but the Lady Golden Tigers answered with five consecutive wins to take home the trophy.

RHS defeated Whitesburg Christian Academy 2-0 by scores of 25-15 and 25-23. Fatima Ramirez had 10 assists and four kills; Blevyn Sappington added eight kills and five digs; Alexia Groce had seven assists and eight digs; Laila Hill had nine kills; Bri McCulloch had 11 digs; Erin Grimes added five digs; and Adaleigh Smith had four digs.

Russellville then beat Florence 2-0 by scores of 25-18 and 25-16. Ramirez had seven assists and seven digs to go with four aces. Sappington had six kills; Groce had seven assists and four digs; Hill added four kills; McCulloch had 11 digs; and Grimes had six digs.

Next, the Lady Golden Tigers toppled West Limestone 2-0 by scores of 25-21 and 25-18. Ramirez had 14 assists and four digs; Sappington added four kills and seven digs; Bella Malone had four kills; Groce added six digs; Hill had 12 kills; McCulloch added nine digs; and Grimes had four digs.

Russellville then defeated Lauderdale County in the rematch 2-1 by scores of 15-25, 25-23 and 15-13. Ramirez had 13 assists and nine digs; Sappington had four kills and 10 digs; Groce had 10 digs; Hill added 11 kills and four digs; McCulloch had 23 digs; and Grimes added eight digs.

In the final match of the tournament, RHS defeated Deshler 2-0 by scores of 27-25 and 25-21. Ramirez had seven assists and 10 digs; Sappington had four kills and 12 digs; Groce added five digs; Hill had five kills and five digs; McCulloch had 21 digs; and Grimes added seven digs.
