Belgreen poised for strong season

BELGREEN — Belgreen’s volleyball team is ready to build on last year’s 16-19 overall record as they enter their second season under head coach Alison Terry.

“During these first few weeks of the season, our main focus has been on building strong teamwork and improving communication,” Terry said. “We’re also working on making our passes more precise and consistently hitting our target areas.”

With a roster that’s largely the same, the Bulldogs are focused on improving key areas to achieve their goals.

Seniors include Carson Hovater as middle hitter, Brynn Scott as libero, Laura Seal as right side hitter, Audree West as utility player, Alayna Tate as setter, and Isabella Tate as right side hitter.

Juniors include Leah Blackburn as setter, Madison McKee as outside hitter and defensive specialist, and Madalyn LeMay as setter.

Sophomore Randi Terri is playing as outside hitter.

Terry highlighted the strong bond and chemistry that makes her team so special.

“What most excites me about my team is that I feel incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such an amazing group of girls,” Terry said. “They make coaching truly rewarding. I am so proud of how these girls have the grit to dig deep in certain situations.”

While Terry says the team’s spirit is high, she has identified two key areas for improvement.

Their primary challenge will be to improve the consistency of their passing, specifically getting the ball to the target.

“This will allow us to run a more diverse and effective offense, giving both our front and back row hitters more opportunities to attack,” Terry explained.

The Bulldogs will also be concentrating on serving consistency to increase pressure on their opponents and reduce unforced errors.

With a returning team and a year of experience under their belt with Coach Terry, the Bulldogs are poised to improve on their 1-2 area record from last season.

Their focus on fundamentals like passing and serving could be the difference-maker as they look to build on their momentum and make this a memorable season.

“Over the past year, I’ve really gotten to know the players on a deeper level and built strong relationships with them,” Terry said. “We’ve developed a mutual understanding — they know what I value as a coach, and I understand what motivates and drives them.”

She said what stands out most is their “heart and commitment.”

“As we head into this season, we want to carry the same energy and momentum from last year,” Terry added. “For our seniors, especially, this is their final opportunity, and I want them — and the whole team — to leave everything on the floor every single game.”
