2 arrested for drug possession
After being caught with multiple empty liquor bottles in the parking lot of Danville High School, two people from Phil Campbell were arrested Aug. 10 after Morgan County sheriff’s deputies located methamphetamine in their vehicle, according to an affidavit.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., deputies were on patrol and observed a white Ford pickup truck with the driver-side door open parked near the agricultural building at Danville High, close to a building that was under construction.
“The white Ford was facing away from my position, and I observed a white femaleidentifiedasAmanda June Prater standing next to the Ford pickup on the driver side near the open door,” the affidavit said.
After making contact with Prater, deputies spoke with Michael Jerome Stone Sr., who was sitting in the driver’s seat of the truck.
“I asked Michael and Amanda what they were doing in the school parking lot and Michael replied that they had been pressure washing the building that was under construction, and he had fallen asleep,” the affidavit said.
Deputies then observed several empty 99 Brand shooter-style plastic bottles on the ground close to where Prater was standing and in the driver-side floorboard of the vehicle.
The affidavit said because Morgan County is a dry county and because of the couple’s presence on school grounds with alcohol in their possession, deputies began a probable cause search.
“I located a blue drawstring- style bag that contained 6 full bottles of 99 Brand shooter bottles in the driver’s seat next to where I initially observed Michael sitting,” the affidavit said. “I then located a flower-print box on the dashboard of the Ford pickup that contained a small plastic baggie with a white residue, and two cut straws with residue.”
Deputies asked Stone if the baggie contained fentanyl or other controlled substances and he told them there was no fentanyl in the vehicle, but the baggie previously contained methamphetamine. According to the affidavit, they continued to search the area and found one glass pipe with residue in a drawstring bag next to where Prater was standing.
Prater claimed she found the bag in a dumpster. The contents of the glass pipe inside the bag field-tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.
Deputies then located a plastic case on the dashboard of the truck that contained another glass pipe with residue and another plastic baggie containing a white, crystalline substance.
“The residue in the glass pipe and the white crystalline substance both fieldtested positive for methamphetamine,” the affidavit said. “The plastic baggie containing the methamphetamine was weighed and produced a weight of 1.81 grams.”
According to the affidavit, both Prater and Stone denied ownership of the narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
Prater, 43, and Stone, 49, were both charged with possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia and were each booked in Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $1,300 bond. Jail records show they bonded out Sunday afternoon.
