Russellville Library kicks off summer with ‘Color Our World’

RUSSELLVILLE — The public library launched its 2025 summer reading program, “Color Our World,” with a fun-filled kickoff event on Friday.

Children received reading logs to track 20 minutes of daily reading throughout the summer. Those who meet their reading goals will get to choose a prize from the library’s treasure box at the next event.

The kickoff included face painting by Shirley Jimenez, refreshing treats from Sub-Zero Shaved Ice, and a creative bookmarkmaking station. All activities were provided at no cost to families.

“Our summer reading program is always free for children, but support from Pilgrims of Russellville makes it possible for us to offer even better activities and experiences,” said Library Director Joshlyn Bowen. “We’re so grateful for their help.”

The program continues June 20 with a visit from magician Russell Davis. Each week brings a new themed activity designed to encourage children to keep reading all summer long.

For updates, details about upcoming activities, and reminders, the library encourages families to follow the Russellville Public Library Facebook page, call, or visit in person.

“My favorite part of summer reading is seeing the children so excited to read — and their families encouraging them to reach their goals,” Bowen added.

To register for events, families can call 256-3321535 or stop by the library in person. Registration is open to the public each Monday before that week’s Friday event, which begins at 10:30 a.m.
