Willis signs to play baseball at NWSCC

RUSSELLVILLE – Ty Willis will be joining the Northwest Shoals Community College Patriots baseball team.

The Patriots are led by head coach David Langston.

A signing ceremony for Willis, who graduate as a member of the Russellville High Class of 2025, was held at the RHS fieldhouse. Family, friends, teammates and coaches attended.

“It’s a pretty big accomplishment getting to celebrate with all my teammates and going on to play at the next level,” Willis said.

The talented infielder is excited about his opportunity to play at NWSCC.

“I’m looking forward to a new opportunity,” he said. “It will be a new atmosphere and I’ve got to go put in the work.”

“Ty has been an absolute joy to coach the last three years,” said RHS head baseball coach Jess Smith. “He was always consistent, in a great mood and a great teammate – happy to be there. He’s an over achiever and you get his best every single day – that is Ty Willis defined. This opportunity is 100% earned.”

Willis was also a key contributor on the football field for the Golden Tigers.

“Ty is an easy guy to root for,” head football coach and Athletic Director Dustin Goodwin said. “Jess (Smith) talked a lot about him and his character and his work ethic and what kind of teammate he was, and I can second all of that.

“You never have to guess what kind of effort he is going to give,” Goodwin added. “He’s a smart kid. He works really hard and does all the things that you need him to do that he doesn’t necessarily get credit for unless it’s to the trained eye. He’s a selfless individual. He loves his teammates and we’re really excited for him.”
