Red Bay Tigers defeat Decatur Heritage baseball team

The Red Bay Tigers defeated Decatur Heritage in game three on Monday, 5-1. In that game, they had multiple hits by Jeremiah Thorne, Dallas Terrell and Landon Lewey. Thorne pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out six.

The win propels them into the third round for a showdown with Mars Hill.

This follows the split of their Class 2A second-round playoff series on Saturday where Red Bay claimed a hard-fought 8-5 victory in game one but fell to the Eagles in the second contest.

Game one saw a dominant performance from Red Bay’s Ty Reynolds, both at the plate and on the pitcher’s mound. Reynolds drove in an impressive four runs on two hits, leading the Tigers past Decatur Heritage. His pivotal moment came in the fifth inning when he launched a two-run home run to right field, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving Red Bay the lead they would not relinquish.

Reynolds also contributed a two-run double in the sixth inning, further solidifying the Tigers’ advantage.

On the mound, Reynolds was equally effective, earning the win by pitching a complete seven innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while walking only one batter. Red Bay’s offense was potent throughout the game, with Terrell, Hunter Strickland, and Lewey all hitting doubles to complement Reynolds’ double and home run.

Terrell had a standout night with three hits, while Thorne, Strickland, and Lewey each chipped in with multiple hits.

However, the Tigers missed an opportunity to secure the series sweep in game two, falling to the Eagles 7-3 despite outhitting them 8-6. Red Bay’s offense continued to produce extra-base hits, with Lewey hitting a triple and Terrell and Reynolds each adding a double.

Carson McGee took the tough loss on the mound, despite a strong performance where he allowed just five hits and struck out an impressive 10 Decatur Heritage batters.
