Bids for culvert project sought

RUSSELLVILLE – Bids are being sought for a new concrete box culvert to replace old pipes on Harrison Avenue near Adams Street.

Civil Group, LLC is handling the plans and bid documents for the project. The proposed project is for a 10-foot x 4-foot x 40-foot reinforced concrete box culvert that will be cast in place.

David Palmer, District 1 councilman, said plans and specifications are complete and bids should be opened by mid-June.

Once the project is completed, Palmer said the city plans to pave that section of Harrison Ave.

“The deterioration (of the pipes) is due to normal wear and tear,” Palmer said. “These improvements are much needed and will enhance safety for the

traveling public.”

Palmer said Street Department Superintendent Shannon Wilson gathered information needed for the Harrison Avenue paving project in December. At the time, Wilson said while there was no “imminent danger,” he felt the existing pipes needed to be replaced before money was spent on paving the street.

Palmer said Wilson madethatrecommendation to the mayor and city council and action was taken to develop plans and specifications.

The advertisement seeking bids will begin this wewek. Bids will be accepted up to the time the bids are opened in mid-June.
