RHS tennis team competes in tourney

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville High School boys tennis team played in the Hillcrest doubles tournament in Tuscaloosa this past weekend. Six members participated.

“We came in third in our pool play, which put us in the B bracket on day two,” said the team’s coach, Lee-Taylor Bishop. “All the boys played really well and competed with some tough 6A and 7A teams. David Tomas and Drew Strickland finished out the day two going 3-0 and winning their bracket.”

Bishop said Logan Marshall substituted for one of the players in two doubles because Marshall couldn’t be at the tournament.

“He played really well with Josue Tomas,” Bishop said. “Josue is a great leader and really stepped up. Braxton Duncan and Jeremy Velez played some strong doubles all tournament as well.”
