REGIONALS BOUND: Belgreen blitzes Lamar County 57-18

BELGREEN – The Belgreen Bulldogs are regional bound after a dominant 57-18 victory over the Lamar County Lions.

The Bulldogs now face a daunting challenge, taking on top-ranked Decatur Heritage on Tuesday at the Northwest Regional Tournament at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.

Belgreen wasted no time asserting its dominance, exploding for a 22-5 lead in the first quarter. The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the second, extending their advantage to 36-11 by halftime. The third quarter saw more of the same with Belgreen outscoring Lamar County to take a commanding 50-18 lead into the final period.

Lilliana Willingham led the charge for the Bulldogs with 14 points, including eight in the opening quarter. Bryn Scott also reached double figures with 10 points. Dacota Green was instrumental in Belgreen’s early surge, scoring 8 points in the first quarter, highlighted by two three-pointers.

Carson Hovater added 6 points, while Isabella Tate contributed 5. Randi Terry scored 4, Kiera Smith and Alayana Tate each had 3 points, Lily Green chipped in with 2, and Jacqueline Alban and Makenna Fisher each had 1 point.

The Belgreen Bulldogs dominated the Covenant Christian Eagles to win the Class 2A Area 14 tournament championship 53-36.

Belgreen led Covenant Christian 14-10 at the end of the first quarter and extended its lead to 27-17 at halftime.

Lilliana Willingham helped Belgreen put the game away in the second half scoring 16 of her gamehigh 18 points. Belgreen extended its lead to 41-24 in the third quarter and cruised to the easy win.

Bryn Scott followed Willingham with 9 points, with 8 coming in the first half. Dacota Green added 8 points, Makenna Fisher 7 points, Isabella Tate 6 points, and Carson Hovater 5 points.

Belgreen’s girls won the regular season area championship as well as the Franklin County tournament championships this season. The Bulldogs have won five straight area titles.
