2 Phil Campbell residents face drug trafficking charges

PHIL CAMPBELL — Two Phil Campbell residents are facing drug trafficking in separate cases following their arrests on Jan. 24, according to court documents.

Alicia Mae Motes, 34, was arrested when she was found at a residence she frequented on the 3800 block of Alabama Highway 20 in Phil Campbell, according to Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kyle Palmer.

Motes was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines and Xanax) and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

She also was wanted for drug trafficking in December 2024 at the same residence, according to court documents.

She was also arrested for the outstanding warrant for drug trafficking (meth) and for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

She has been booked into the Franklin County Jail without bond due to violation of her probation for other offenses.

In a separate case, Gary Don Williams, 47, was arrested and charged last week with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and one count each of drug trafficking (methamphetamines), second-degree receiving stolen property, certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.

Palmer said Williams had been investigated numerous times in the last couple months for drug trafficking in the Phil Campbell area.

“Enough information was obtained that allowed us to secure a search warrant,” Palmer said.

At the time of the execution of the search warrant, Palmer said Williams was found with about 2 ounces of crystal methamphetamines and attempted to destroy the drugs when deputies entered the shed in which he lived in on Frazier Lane.

Upon further search of the shed, deputies found a firearm near Williams’ bed that had been reported stolen years earlier, according to Palmer.

Williams also was wanted for unlawful distribution of a controlled substance in Phil Campbell.

The arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 20, 2024, when Williams sold 10.8 grams of meth to a confidential informant of the sheriff’s office.

Williams was booked into the Franklin County Jail, where he remains on a $50,000 bond.
