Bobcats boys team claws way to area victory over Sheffield

In a pivotal area matchup with significant implications for seeding in the upcoming February tournament, the Phil Campbell Bobcats secured a hardfought victory over the Sheffield Bulldogs. The win gives the Bobcats a crucial boost heading into the postseason.

Phil Campbell came out strong, establishing their dominance early. They outscored Sheffield 15-8 in the first quarter, setting the tone for the game. The Bobcats continued their strong play in the second quarter, extending their lead with a 14-9 scoring advantage. The third quarter saw a more even contest, with both teams scoring 9 points.

While Sheffield managed to keep pace, they were unable to close the gap on the Bobcats’ lead. Sheffield mounted a comeback effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring Phil Campbell 16-15; however, the Bobcats held on to secure the win. Austin Elliott led the charge for Phil Campbell, putting up a game-high 19 points. Hayden Wingo provided valuable support with 12 points, while Madden Welch reached double figures with 10. Bailey Nix contributed seven points, and Logan Wright added five.

This victory is a significant one for the Bobcats, solidifying their position heading into the crucial area tournament in February. The win demonstrates their ability to compete against tough competition and provides valuable momentum as they prepare for the postseason.

Varsity Girls – Sheffield, 40 – Phil Campbell, 34 The varsity girls did not fare as well. Phil Campbell was upset by Sheffield, 40-34. The game had little significance as far as area seeding goes. Both teams are going to face each other again in the first round of the area tournament in February with a spot in the area final and subregion on the line.

Sheffield took an early 9-4 lead in the first quarter, but Phil Campbell battled back to cut the Bulldogs lead to 16-15 at halftime. Sheffield pulled away again in the third quarter to take a 31-25 lead. The Bulldogs hung on for the win in the fourth quarter. Macy Hardy led Phil Campbell with 15 points. Leela Baker and Kaylie Motes scored seven points each. Sidda Rogers added three points and Mia Ambrosio two points.
