Franklin County Schools BOE receives grant money

“I was fortunate to get a grant for the Franklin County School system, and it is for $71,686,” explained Rep. Jamie Kiel in addressing the Board during the Nov. 19 meeting of the Franklin County Schools Board of Education, adding he would let the board decide “how to best spend that.”

Kiel explained he’s “forevermore getting requests for this thing and that,” adding “there’s obviously a need for funding.” He said the money comes from the Education Trust Fund. “Some years, we take in more than we budget for, and that’s where this money came from – we call it a supplemental budget,” Kiel continued, “but it’s just excess funds that we’re able to put back in our communities, and that’s the reason I have this check, so I chose the Franklin County School system to receive it.”

FCS superintendent, Greg Hamilton, expressed his enthusiasm. “I am very appreciative of what Rep. Kiel does to help the Franklin County School System,” Hamilton said. “This grant will help supplement our academic tutoring and other small projects at our schools.”
