Russellville volleyball team defeats Fayette County after falling in area matches

The Russellville varsity volleyball team completed regular season area play with matches versus the West Point Warriors and Lawrence County Red Devils before defeating the Fayette County Tigers.

RHS went to West Point Sept. 23 and fell to the Warriors 3-0. West Point won the match with scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-22. Blevyn Sappington had seven digs and six kills for Russellville and Alexia Groce added four digs. Haylee Rikard had four digs and three kills, Laila Hill had six kills and three digs while Bella Malone collected five kills and two digs. Bri McCulloch had 11 digs, Fatima Ramirez had six assists and two kills and Erin Grimes had three digs.

Russellville hosted both Lawrence County and Fayette County the following evening. LCHS dropped the Golden Tigers to 1-3 in the area with a 3-0 sweep. The Lady Devils took the match with scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-22. Laila Hill had nine kills, four digs and two blocks.

Ramirez added eight digs, five assists, two kills and two aces, Groce had 12 digs and seven assists while Sappington added six kills, six digs and four aces. McCulloch collected 14 digs and four assists and Grimes had six digs and two aces. Also for RHS, Rikard and Malone had three kills each.

The Golden Tigers then put together a winning performance to take down Fayette County 2-0. RHS grabbed the first set 25-20 and then outpaced the visiting Tigers 25-22 in set two. Bri McCulloch had 12 digs and two assists to help lead Russellville to victory. Groce had seven assists and two digs, Sappington added nine kills and five digs, Hill had five kills and three digs and Malone had four kills. Ramirez also had four kills along with three assists and Grimes added three digs.
