Russellville volleyball gets three wins during busy week on court

The 2024 varsity volleyball season continued for the Russellville Golden Tigers with a week that was full of entertaining matches on courts both home and away.

Sept. 16, RHS went on the road to battle Colbert Heights and Mars Hill. Russellville defeated Colbert Heights 2-1 by scores of 25-13, 20-25 and 15-6. Mars Hill defeated the Golden Tigers 2-0 by scores of 25-17 and 25-15.

Russellville hosted and swept a tri-match Sept. 17 versus Haleyville High School and Phil Campbell High. First, RHS defeated Haleyville 2-0 by scores of 25-15 and 25-21. Alexia Groce had 11 assists, five digs and two aces. Bri McCulloch added seven digs, Blevyn Sappington had eight digs, six kills and four aces. Also for RHS, Laila Hill had six kills, three digs and a block while Fatima Ramirez added five digs, five assists and one ace.

Russellville then bested PCHS 2-0 with scores of 25-4 and 25-13. McCulloch had six aces and three digs while Hill added three kills and one block. Haylee Rikard had two kills, Sappington added three digs and three kills and Groce had seven assists, two kills and one ace.

The Golden Tigers had away matches versus Lauderdale County and Wilson Sept. 19. RHS fell to LCHS 2-0 by scores of 25-23 and 25-14. Groce had five assists and two digs, Sappington added six digs and three kills, Hill had four kills and McCulloch added six digs.

The Wilson Warriors defeated Russellville 2-0 by scores of 25-13 and 25-17. Fatima Ramirez had eight digs and five assists, McCulloch had four digs, Sappington added eight kills, Hill had four kills and Groce added five assists and three digs.
