Volleyball season underway for Russellville Golden Tigers

The volleyball season for the Russellville High School varsity team is underway, and the Golden Tigers have already been busy on the court with matches versus quality competition.

First-year varsity head coach Madison Lamon earned her first win as the RHS squad opened the season by defeating Curry High School 2-0 Aug. 22 by scores of 25-16 and 25-20.  Hamilton High School hosted the tri-match, and the Aggies defeated Russellville 2-1 later that same evening.

The Golden Tigers participated in a tournament at Lauderdale County High School Aug. 24. Russellville dropped the first match to Deshler, won a set versus Lexington, but lost to the Golden Bears, was defeated by Addison 2-0 and finished the day with a win over Elkmont 2-1 with scores of 25-18, 20-25 and 15-6.

Russellville took the home court for the first time this year for a tri-match versus Colbert Heights and Deshler Aug. 26. The Golden Tigers defeated the Colbert Heights Wildcats in a hard-fought battle 2-1 and finished the evening with a loss to Deshler.

Phil Campbell High School was the site for a tri-match Aug. 27. Russellville defeated the Bobcats 2-1, and the Golden Tigers also defeated Phillips High by the same total.
