Belgreen, Red Bay teams split in county action

GIRLS

The Belgreen Bulldogs edged out a squeaker over Red Bay Tuesday night, winning 56-53.

In a back-and-forth fourth quarter, the Bulldogs came out on top as a Red Bay shot to tie the game at the buzzer didn’t fall.

Belgreen jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, outscoring Red Bay 20-11. The Bulldogs still led at halftime 29-22.

Red Bay cut the game to three points in the third 40-37 and tied the game in the fourth quarter – but after multiple ties and lead changes, the Bulldogs came out on top of the Tigers.

Noelle Willingham led Belgreen with 22 points, followed by Dacota Green with 17 points. Willingham scored six in the third quarter and seven in the fourth quarter and went 10-for-11 from the free throw line.

Green scored six in the first, five in the second and six in the fourth for Belgreen.

Bryn Scott added four points. Isabella Tate, Makenna Fisher and Carson Hovater scored three points each. Makayla Willingham and Alayna Tate added two points each.

Red Bay’s Kaylie Lindley led all scorers with 27 points, scoring 11 points in the third quarter.

Madaline Ledbetter added eight points, Amber Mason six points, Jaycee Vinson five points, Gretchen Davis four points and Shelby Nichols three points.

BOYS

The Red Bay Tiger boys held the Belgreen Bulldogs to seven points in the second and third quarters combined to get an easy 61-31 this past week.

Red Bay led Belgreen 16-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers extended their lead to 33-15 at halftime.

Belgreen, without leading scorer Austin James and two other starters, struggled to put points on the board. The Tigers had increased their lead to 46-18 at the end of the third quarter and cruised to the win.

B.P. Blair led Red Bay with 13 points, followed by Ty Reynolds with 10 points. Kennedy Wilemon, Conner Humphries, Holden Inmon and Lawson Glover all had eight points each. Jeremiah Robinson and Gage Edgmon scored three points each.

Will King led Belgreen with 10 points. Jonathan Mendoza added nine points. Ben Williams and Hunter Woodruff scored four points each. Miguel Willingham and Gabriel Estrada scored two points each.
