Phil Campbell volleyball gets first program win

The Phil Campbell Bobcats volleyball program got its first-ever win Thursday, beating Tharptown in two straight sets, 25-17 and 25-20.

The Bobcats started their program this past year and went winless on the season, so Thursday’s win was a major milestone in the development of Phil Campbell volleyball.

“I am really proud of these girls,” said Phil Campbell Coach Amy Moss. “Starting a program from scratch is hard. This is a huge step for these girls in our second year. We have some good leaders, and they are committed to working hard and winning.”

Phil Campbell lost to Russellville in game one. The Golden Tigers beat both the Bobcats and the Tharptown Wildcats in the season-opening trimatch.

Britney Coffman had 13 kills, and Alexis Stewart had 12, in the Bobcats’ tri-match split with the Wildcats and Russellville. Phil Campbell lost to the Golden Tigers 25-10 and 25-20.

Russellville beat Tharptown 25-8 and 25-19.
