Red Bay shooting ends in arrest

A Vina man is in custody after a shooting incident near Red Bay that left one injured.

June 28 deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office started an investigation into a shooting that occurred on Garrison Hollow Road outside of Red Bay city limits.

One victim was transported by private vehicle to Red Bay Hospital with a gunshot wound to her arm. The victim was ultimately transferred to Huntsville Hospital with critical injuries.

According to the FCSO, Shannon Dale Hacker, of Vina, and the victim had been in a relationship when the shooting took place, and he drove the victim to the hospital. After dropping the victim off, Hacker left the area, and a manhunt began.

Hacker was arrested after a brief foot pursuit and is in the Franklin County Detention Center.

He is charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a controlled substance–methamphetamine, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to elude. According to the FCSO, more charges will be added later.

Law enforcement in three states helped in locating and capturing Hacker. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Red Bay Police Department, Russellville Police Department and the following from Mississippi: the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office, Itawamba County Sheriff’s Office, Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Saltillo Police Department, Tupelo Police Department and Natchez Trace Park Rangers. Thanks also goes to the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office out of Tennessee and the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
