Tharptown boys pick up pair of wins

The Tharptown Wildcats picked up a pair of wins during spring break.

Despite losing an area series against Whitesburg Christian, Tharptown did pick up a 4-3 win in game two of the series to force a game three.

Tharptown scored first in the top of the first inning when Blake Daily singled in Dawson Higgins. The Wildcats added a run in the top of the third inning when Ty Englethaler scored on a fielder’s choice.

Whitesburg Christian scored a run in the third inning and two in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.

Tharptown responded in the top of the seventh inning when Joah Wilcoxsin doubled in Engelthaler to tie the game 3-3. The Wildcats took the lead when Wilcoxson scored on a ground ball by Daily.

Tharptown also picked up a 7-6 win over Danville Saturday. The Wildcats pounded out 13 hits, including three hits each from Jessie Mitchell and Wilcoxsin and two from Jackson Clement.

Mitchell had the big game. Two of his three hits were a double and a triple. He also had two RBIs and scored two runs.

Wilcoxsin and Daily also scored two runs each.

Higgins pitched five and one-third innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight.
