Vina, Phil Campbell girls pick up wins during holiday week

The Vina Red Devils and the Phil Campbell Bobcats made the most of holiday basketball action by putting a few extra tallies in their respective win columns.

Vina ran away from Hubbertville in the middle two quarters of the game to win 48-33 this past week. Sara Scott scored a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Red Devils to the win.

Hubbertville led 10-5 at the end of the first quarter, but Kaitlyn Athey sparked Vina in the second quarter, scoring nine points, and the Red Devils outscored the Tigers 17-7 to take a 22-17 halftime lead.

Vina continued that pace in the third quarter, outscoring Hubbertville 18-8 to extend the lead 40-26.

Athey and Scott led Vina with 14 points each. Sarah Harper scored nine points and dished out nine assists. Abbie Petree and Keyara Umfress scored four points each. K.K. Mitchell added two points, and Kaley Attaway chipped in one point.
