BQA training available to community
April 9 there will be an opportunity in Franklin County for people to become Beef Quality Assurance certified.
From 6-8 p.m. there will be BQA Training at the Northwest Alabama Livestock Auction in Russellville. This event is free of charge.
“Beef Quality Assurance is a national program designed to aid beef producers in better understanding animal husbandry. This in turn helps ensure a safe and sustainable beef supply for consumers,” explained Franklin County Extension agent Paul Vining.
Dr. Soren Rodning, associate professor at Auburn University and veterinarian with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, will be the instructor. Topics that will be discussed are herd health management, animal care and handling, injection sites, needle size and selection, de-horning, vaccination protocol and vaccine handling.
“It’s a program that is designed to be tailored to the needs of an individual group of cattle producers with the goal to make certain all beef consumers may take pride in what they purchase and can trust and have confidence in the entire beef industry,” said Vining.
A free meal will be provided courtesy of the Franklin County Junior Cattlemen.
