Club Chronicles: Delta Kappa Gamma group makes local, international donations

Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Upsilon held its December meeting at the First United Methodist Church Ministry Center. Hostesses Gayle McAlister, Louise Hester, Amy Gunderman, Joyce Strickland and Patricia Cox served a delicious dinner. Beautiful decorations were displayed for the holiday season.
The inspirational thought was given by Patricia Cox. Dianne Pace highlighted Moments of DKG Society Orientation.
Kim Burney presented the program on the FAME Girls Ranch. There are 19 children currently at the ranch, two sets of families serving as house parents, an in-house social worker and an administrator. All girls are enrolled in local public schools and are thriving in academics as well as participating in sports, dance, cheering and HOSA.

FAME Ranch relies on the generosity of the community to help meet the needs of girls who are in need of so many things, including encouragement, clothing, education and love. Gift cards are always needed, especially when a child shows up and all they have is a plastic bag with a few belongings.

Every child has someone in the area that will sponsor them for Christmas. Various fundraisers – such as a golf tournament, an All Star Concert, Gift Card Fundraiser and Easter Egg Hunt – are held annually for the ranch.

Local retired and current tutors are encouraged to assist the girls who are behind in school.

DKG supports the girls’ Easter Egg Hunt each year and also donates gift cards.
At this meeting DKG members participated in a silent auction to raise money for the DKG International World Fellowship. World Fellowship recipients are non-member women from many countries who are seeking a master’s or doctorate degree and plan to return to their countries to make a difference in our world. DKG has supported more than 975 women in 120 countries and given $3,439,600 in grants since 1960. The Christmas silent auction raised $200.
