BHS’ Scout Bragwell scores 27 points in win over Phillips
Sophomore Scout Bragwell hit six three-pointers on the way to 27-point performance in a 90-67 win over Phillips Dec. 4.
Belgreen jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead and extended that lead to 48-30 at halftime. The Bulldogs led 68-47 through three quarters of play.
Mason Bragwell and Brant Bragwell followed Scout with 17 points and 16 points respectively. Tanner Warhurst added 10 points, Gavin Taylor nine points, Isac Willingham five points, Jonathan Gonzalez three points, Will Donohoe two points and Koby Collins one point.
In the varsity girls game, Phillips got the easy win over the Bulldogs 64-30. Phillips led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter and 39-15 at halftime in route to the win.
No player hit double figures in the girls’ game. Gabbie Moore scored eight points, Emma Dempsey six points, Autumn Bragwell four points, Gracie Dempsey four points, Ansley Tate four points, Emma Willingham three points, Katie Dempsey two points, Camie Terrell two points and Megan Smith two points.
Red Bay, Belgreen split varsity matchups
Gath Weatherford scored 22 points to help lead the Red Bay Tigers to a 60-47 win over rival Belgreen Saturday.
The Tigers used their trademark stifling defense to hold the Bulldogs to their lowest scoring output on the young season. Red Bay led Belgreen 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and steadily began to pull away. The Tigers led the Bulldogs 27-21 at halftime and 44-35 at the end of the third quarter.
Braden Ray followed Weatherford with 11 points. Noah Brewer finished the game with eight points; Clay Allison had seven points; and Colton Corum tallied six points. Hunter Bays, Arden Hamilton and Lane Shewbart scored two points each.
Brant Bragwell and Mason Bragwell led Belgreen with 17 points and 16 points respectively. Scout Bragwell added 10 points. Isac Willingham and Tanner Warhurst finished the game with two points each.
In the varsity girls’ game, Emma Dempsey scored 22 points to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past Red Bay 69-59.
Belgreen doubled-up Red Bay in the first quarter to take an early 20-10 lead, and the Bulldog girls maintained that lead 33-23 at halftime.
Lila Blackburn hit three three-pointers in the third quarter to help pull Red Bay back in the game, outscoring Belgreen 19-12 and cutting the Tigers’ lead to 45-42.
Belgreen went 21-for-29 from the free throw line – many in the fourth quarter, where Belgreen outscored Red Bay 24-17 to win the game.
Katie Dempsey and Gracie Dempsey scored 10 points each for Belgreen. Autumn Bragwell and Moore added nine points each. Tate scored seven points and Emma Willingham two points.
Reagan Kuykendall led Red Bay with 17 points. Blackburn followed with 16 points, including five three-pointers. Mallori Miller finished with 15 points, including four three-pointers. Kaylee Markham contributed five points, Destiny McCollister four points and Cassidy Kuykendall two points.
In the B-varsity boys’ game, Red Bay defeated Belgreen 43-27. Dawson Wright led Red Bay with 13 points. Canaan Stough led Belgreen with 11 points.
