Tigers, Bobcats get holiday tournament wins
Red Bay 72, Westminster Oak Mountain 41
Colton Corum and Braden Ray combined for 30 points as the Red Bay Tigers easily defeated Westminster Oak Mountain last week at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.
Red Bay jumped out to a 17-7 first quarter lead and held a commanding 35-17 lead at halftime.
The Tigers increased their lead to 51-30 at the end of the third quarter en route to the win.
Corum and Ray led Red Bay with 15 points each. Clay Allison followed with nine points, Alex Kennedy with eight points, Noah Brewer with seven points, Gath Weatherford with seven points, Hunter Bays with five points, Tanner Hamilton with four points and Aiden Hamilton with two points.
Red Bay 59, Tanner 58
The Red Bay Tigers hit four three-pointers and scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to earn a come-from-behind win over the Tanner Rattlers last week.
Tanner jumped out to a 17-11 first quarter lead, but Red Bay was able to chip away at the lead, outscoring the Rattlers 17-15 in the second quarter. Tanner led 32-28 at the half.
Both teams scored nine points in the third quarter. Red Bay outscored Tanner 22-17 in the fourth quarter to get the win
Weatherford led Red Bay with 20 points. Corum followed with 12 points. Allison (7), Ray (6), Tanner Hamilton (4) and Aiden Hamilton (4) also scored for the Tigers, and Brewer, Bays and Kennedy scored two points each.
Phil Campbell 52, Tanner 48
The Phil Campbell Bobcats used a good defensive effort to stop the Tanner Rattlers 52-48 last week at Wallace State Community College.
Phil Campbell limited Tanner to just 13 second-half points in route to the win.
A frantic pace gave Tanner a small 20-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, but after the first quarter, the scoring slowed down for both teams.
Tanner extended the lead to 35-29 at halftime, but the Bobcats cut the Rattlers’ lead to one point, 40-39, at the end of the third quarter. Phil Campbell outscored Tanner 13-8 in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Luke Garrison led the Bobcats with 15 points. Brett Saint followed with 10 points. Nate Owens added nine points, Ben Williams eight points, Ridge Raper six points and Isaac Riddle four points.
Westminster Oak Mountain 81, Phil Campbell 57
Phil Campbell’s Saint hit five three-pointers and scored 21 points in an 81-57 loss to Westminster Oak Mountain last week.
Westminster led Phil Campbell 20-19 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 44-30 at halftime.
Westminster hit 13 three-pointers in the game.
Garrison followed Saint, scoring 10 points. Raper and Riddle scored five points each. Williams, Owens, Francisco Jimenez and Seth Baker scored four points each.
Varsity girls
Hanceville 61, Red Bay 60
Reagan Kuykendall scored 19 second-half points in a 61-60 overtime loss to Hanceville last week.
Hanceville opened up a one-point, 13-12, lead at the end of the first quarter, but Red Bay was able to battle back and take a 23-22 lead at halftime. The Tigers extended their lead to 39-35 in the third quarter, but Hanceville battled back and outscored Red Bay 17-13 in the fourth quarter to end regulation in a 52-52 tie and send the game to overtime.
Cassidy Kuykendall scored six points in overtime, but it wasn’t enough, as Hanceville outpaced Red Bay 9-8.
Reagan Kuykendall led Red Bay with 21 points. Cassidy Kuykendall followed with 13 points. Macy Faulkner finished the game with 10 points. Mallori Miller added eight points, Destiny McCollister three points, Lila Blackburn three points and Kaylee Markham two points.
