Russellville Reads: Celebrate season with scary story

October is such a busy month at the library, but we wouldn’t
have it any other way.
When cool weather rolls in, there’s nothing better than curling
up on the couch with a good book! Luckily, the Russellville
Public Library has a collection of more than 18,000 books
available for checkout.
We’ve taken the liberty of pulling several books from our
collection to help you get a jumpstart on the holiday season.
We know with Halloween on the horizon, several of our
patrons are on the hunt for something spooky. We have
displays throughout the library with some of our best go-to
books.
For children, we have several favorites, like “Frankenstein
Makes a Sandwich,” “Happy Halloween Curious George” and,
of course, the ever-popular R.L. Stine. We also have books
on how to draw monsters and make scary origami creatures.

Along with several Horrid Henry books, we also have some
great DVDs like “Mostly Ghostly,” “Hocus Pocus” and
“Goosebumps.”
For our teens we have a great collection of horror, fantasy
and supernatural fiction. Some of our favorites are “The
Forest of Hands and Teeth,” “Rot and Ruin” and the Marked
series by P.C. and Kristin Cast.
We have several nonfiction books available for checkout as
well. Planning a party? Try some of our books on pumpkin
carving, face painting, sewing and crafts. We also have books
on recipes and DIY decorations, so feel free to get carried
away and take advantage of all the library has to offer.
Looking for a REAL thrill? We have several books like
“Alabama Ghosts,” “Haunted and Paranormal America,” and
“Ghosthunting for Beginners.” We pulled some of the best
(and worst) horror movies for your enjoyment as well. We
have your classic favorites like “The Exorcist” and “Pet
Sematary.” We also have new releases like “A Quiet Place”
and “Truth or Dare.” Don’t forget the cheesy goodness of
movies so awful they’re great, like “Snakes on a Plane” and
“Piranha.”
In keeping with the festivities, don’t forget to check our
calendar at www.russellvillepubliclibrary.com. In addition to
our regularly-scheduled programs, this week you can join us
for the start of our fall gardening series, learn how to scry for
graves or get zombified at the library’s 6th annual Zombie
Walk.
It’s all treats and no tricks at the Russellville Public Library.
