4-H Archery Club comes to FC

Saturday marks the first meeting of the new 4-H Archery Club hosted by the Franklin County Extension. It will meet in conjunction with the 4-H Shotgun Club at Cedar Hill Trap Range, according to 4-H agent Janet Lovelady.

The inaugural meeting will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“In the 4-H Archery Club, participants will learn and practice archery safety and skills using a compound or recurve bow,” Lovelady said. She encouraged participants to bring their own bow and three arrows if possible but said some Genesis bows will be available to use.

“4-H shooting sports clubs are designed to help youth learn and practice safe firearm skills while developing their marksmanship for competitive shooting sports,” Lovelady said.

Archery Club is one of the 4-H S.A.F.E. Clubs, or Shooting Awareness Fun Education Clubs. Participants must be at least 9 years old.

Since safety is a primary consideration, all S.A.F.E. programs are led by 4-H trained and certified volunteers, who are trained to maintain the highest standards of safety at all times for all participants.

Lovelady herself is a 4-H Archery certified coach for the Franklin County 4-H program. She has been certified in 4-H archery for five years.
